It's obvious that the F1 owners conspired to threaten all supercar manufacturers with blackmail should future productions not allow microchips to shift gears.

This. Car culture among rich people is changing... going all the way back to the invention of a car, high-powered supercars were seen as not only toys for the rich, but also cars that you have to "master" (i.e, if you just jump into an F40 and try to drive it, you're going to have a bad time. Ditto for the "blower" Bentley, etc etc.)..

That being said, a certain "population" of up-and-coming wealth who, no offense, lack the cultural experience to appreciate their wealth and the taste to properly enjoy it... obviously treat cars as a status symbol instead of a beautiful machine. It's like having a priceless painting in your house without knowing the significance of it or how to appreciate it; you only have it because you think it makes you look wealthy. Let's be real here, how many of you have been stuck behind a $150,000+ exotic in Richmond doing 5 under the speed limit all the way down No. 3? Such a waste, IMO.

But then, these people are actually driving their cars instead of being stored away in some heated garage, only driven few times in their lives.

i certainly hope the OP wasn't thinking about the dead pedal, brakes and accelerator...
