Canada has fucked up. My tax dollars should not be put forward so you can have a gastric band surgery because "you can't stop eating." Knight_KB has valid points, as my godfather is a big guy, looks overweight, but can bicycle 50km/day to work and home and not lose his breathe. Honestly I don't care if you're fat, you die young because of heart failure/diabetes/total body failure. That's your problem. The issue is when your obesity gets in the way of others. Whether is be our taxes get raised to fund surgeries or counselling, or our plane tickets prices increase because you can't fit in 1 economy seat (and you can't afford 1st class/business). Obesity is not a fucking disease though. It's a lifestyle choice. One where you exercise daily/weekly even, you eat cleaner, and you think about how you are going to stay alive past fucking 50. I know tons of people who say they're too embarrassed to go into the gym, yet I tell them: "No one is going to make fun of you for trying to change." |

If somebody truly had a genetic or metabolic issue that caused obesity (which I do not doubt there are), a surgical procedure that simply limits food intake should have little or no effect. |

Spoiler! EDIT: People are kinda on two sides of a different coin here: 1. me and a few others (Knight & westopher) are pointing out that taxing overweight people just because they are overweight and might possibly put a strain on the health care system is pretty contradictory to the point. 2. Mello and Sonick and a few others are talking about how paying for what could be considered elective surgery for fat people should not be their responsibility. I guess in response to what mello and sonick are saying, maybe these surgeries should be deemed elective, and then just like a boob job, people would have to pay out of pocket for it. Or maybe I am taking this "Tax" a little to relatively, maybe that was all that was meant in the first place, but the way I understood it, was that you would literally charge people yearly based on their weight. To me doing that seems really discriminatory. |

@wes: I concur. Yet I'm a strong believer of will power, and if your mind can push you hard enough, you can overcome it. To me, even with drug addiction, I believe if people WANT to change. They can/will. But like the 40% of obese Americans, they don't want to put any work into that change. They just want the govt to give them an easy handout, and continue their lives the way it was going. Just slimmer. |
dudes its ok think about it this way... in a system where we all depend on each other for the WHOLE to advance forward... let's just help each other with whatever tax money. it's okay, whatever. it's a small cost in the larger picture of life. what us sexy people benefit from already is... BEING SEXY HAH... the healthier people are just better looking already. the obese already have fingers pointed at them making fun of them and their chance of getting laid or getting anything in life other than diarrhea and constipation is super low already. they're already living a life of punishment... self disgust is pretty bad punishment haha.. my taxes goes to help the unfortunate unhealthy people.. and us healthier people are covered in unhealthy people's envy. good enough for me hah... |
^ unfortunately that is no longer the case nowadays with the whole fat-acceptance/anti-fat-shaming movement that is going on. It's one thing to 'accept' somebody who is a 'normal' size in comparison to fashion models, and is in overall good health except they have a few pounds on them. But it's another thing group those same people in with people who are clearly grossly overweight and at an unhealthy size and call it 'curvy'. |

ZioAmerican marketing + affordable (unhealthy) food = unhealthy people = diseases (like cancer) = ZioAmerican profits. Do our taxes pay for cancer treatment? No. Where does the life savings of an unhealthy individuals money go after cancer treatment? It goes into the cancer business run by the same marketers and world suppliers of unhealthy food. |
This is one tinfoil hat theory I agree with cic on 100% although it's much less relevant here than it is the U.s. |
I only eat organic, gluten-free, and enjoy vegan products n' shhheeeiit The last few years living downtown has shown me there are so many beautiful women in their 30's and 40's who have really aged well, the ones who keep their looks only eat premium foods! There is a chick I met through a friend who partied hard on Granville for like a decade, she's 31 and looks mid 40's. Always eats McD's and shit. |
I'm pretty stoned, so I'm not sure how relevant the last post I made was. Who cares? Anyways, if you start taxing fat people it becomes a slippery slope real fuckin' quick before the Government is taxing you if you like weed, booze, high horsepower cars, if you mountain bike you might pay a "danger" premium. The Government exists to nickel and dime you on everything, be glad you have the RIGHT to be a fat ass manboob virgin WoW level 70 neckbeard faggot! Be DAMN glad. |

Health care is just a form of insurance. You bitch about it until the day you need it and then thank god there was such a thing. |

I believe the best way to lose weight is going on a fruit diet (which is unaffordable) and also sourcing fats from avocados, walnuts, and olive oil in salads. |

or don't eat at all and sleep 15 hours a day, and the 9 hours you are awake, eat one small meal. or go party a lot, don't eat cuz you're always high on drugs, and party more, and sleep like mad after (without eating). anyway diet is important, but activity is even more important. and doing activity does not mean u can "eat more". too many times i see people go to the gym and then say they can eat more. buddy, that extra 250 cals you just ate in 3 minutes, just completely negated your workout, AND added more calories on top.. you know how long you have to workout to burn 250 cals? don't make me make you watch mike chang 6 pack workout youtube advertisements all day. haven't they learnt? it takes like 10,000 situps to burn off 1 point of fat!!! LOL. anyway, point being... people emphasize on diet too much now. see girls that never work out, and are picky about what they eat... look lady, you look better, but you still look fat cuz you don't fucking workout. you could eat like you did before, and workout way harder and you'd have better results. whatever, part of me thinks fat people have some genetic disposition to be fat anyway, and on top of that, they have some sort of sensation (taste) impulse disorder... just let them be fat, fuck em. just like the retards, we as society will carry them on our backs, cuz they're human too. we'll poke fun at them and do experiments on them when needed, but no matter what, we'll always carry them on our backs, just like we carry all the weak humans on our backs. we need fat people to fuck themselves up so scientists can develop ways to fix those problems, and society as a whole will level up, and become immune to fatness. :accepted: |
taxing fast food is the dumbest solution i have ever heard anyone propose making fast food more expensive not only fucks over low income people, but does not actually fight obesity as it aint gonna make fat asses exercise, or diet you eat anything, no matter how healthy and u don't exercise and run a significant calorie surplus = weight gain. its simple thermodynamics |

States that activity is more important than diet, yet goes on the next five paragraphs with examples of how diet is more important than activity. :suspicious: |
