accord v6 2004 automatic slipping gear problem sup guys, so I have an accord and the gears are not locking in when starting to drive up a small hill or on the highway up to 80km it slips in and out. I am assuming a gear is fried again but the first time I had a tranny problem, the tranny did make a loud whining noise. The transmission is not making any small noises this time and it does pop into gear still. Is there anything I can do? would a transmission flush help? The guy is asking for 1500 to rebuild.. |
sell it and get another car? probably the best option since v6 auto accords are notorious for tranny probs even if you get it fixed, chances are it'll pop up again. |
yeah, planning to get a new accord but I still need to fix it before I can sell it. Or just use it as a beater car, since the mileage is high already at 240k |
yeah ... i have a V6 auto accord as well It's your tranny going out again. Rebuild is kinda pointless because I've been reading forums and they all seem to fail again shortly after rebuild -- most guys rebuild and instantly sell the car because of the stupid tranny failing repeatedly -- or you could try to do a manual swap and drive the car into the ground, but a manual swap will run you in the $4k+ area, at that point it's cheaper to rebuild it and sell it and buy a manual yourself It sucks, the engine is great though. Mine is at 230,000 kms and it's not burning any oil, pulling strong, not even smoking at redline like most older engines do |

My four banger Accords tranny waa rebuilt 3 times in a span of 4-5 months. Tranny had a one year warranty so that was nice, other then that, it's much of a hassle because the car still ends up struggling to change gears and shifts were never smooth, and for cold starts, the tranny struggled even more On the bright side, rebuilt only cost me $1300 with some intense Indian bargaining :fuckyea: |

My engine and everything is in immaculate condition as well as long as the maintenance is up to date. |
I have no idea, but mine is similar mileage on the original tranny I'd be lucky to get $4-5K for it -- better to just keep it. Where else am I gonna get a reliable 4 door sedan in decent shape for $4k? 4 banger should have no tranny issues, unless you drive it really hard. Manual + v6 should also be no problems at all. I've just started doing the manual drain + refill of the tranny fluid every couple of months, or before a big road trip. It's ~$30 each time (fluid cost) and it gives me peace of mind, not sure if it really does anything. You could also try replacing the pressure switches, apparently the first design was flawed and there's updated switches available that increase longevity |
any idea what major components I need to have maintained past 240k to keep this vehicle going if i were to fix it? |
Wow Supra....2nd tranny already? Do you drive it hard? and have you been doing the drain and refills/filter/switches for maintenance? Btw, it seems like the 7th gen 4 cylinders have oil burning problems. |

yikes. i have a 4 banger and v6 7th gen. i live in the city so both have low mileage. when do these issues usually pop up? random or after a certain mileage is accumulated? i feel like i'm on borrowed time here. |

Yeah V6 auto trannies are notorious for grenading. I had a manual 4 banger and it was pretty reliable. Serpentine belt snapped on me the first day of ownership (not covered by warranty as its considered a perishable  ). The transmission did end up going but I think it wad more due to the original owner grinding gears more than a design flaw. Sold it at a quarter million miles and by that point a few issues had come up - door lock control unit died, axles being eaten, etc. All said though, it's one of the few cars I highly regret selling. The engine was reliable as hell and it was even still on the original clutch. |
