Unintended Acceleration
 

So the first major problem has hit the Saab in the form of unintended acceleration. Well, it only holds the accelerator in position for an extra second or so after lifting my foot off the pedal, but it's enough of an issue that I'm kinda concerned. The caveat is that it only happens when there's an extra load on the engine, specifically the HVAC.

My initial thought was the IAC, but I'm not entirely convinced having the a/c running puts enough of a load on the IAC to cause it to malfunction. I could be completely wrong, though. A search through a few Saab sites also suggest the MAF.

Figured I'd run this by you guys here before I start swapping parts out willy nilly.

Cheapest solution = Clean throttle body, IAC, MAF sensor and go from there. A simple $5 bottle of cleaner could fix your problem if the sensors are all gummed up from years of dirt

OBD2 car right? a scanner should be able to capture live data.

Don't currently have access to a live data capture scanner. My bluetooth OBD2 scanner stopped working, so my Torque app is useless. lol My wired one is just a cheapo reader.

So, I've no idea what the Saab people were saying... there's no freakin' MAF on this car! :lol I sprayed down the IAC. Haven't had a chance to take it for a spin yet as there's currently a heavy rain/lightning storm and my road is literally dirt right now due to them repaving it. It does seem to be idling better, even after turning as many loads as I could. We shall see once the road dries out and I'm able to take it out. Figure I'll tear the throttle body out next if it's still acting up.

is it a drive by wire or throttle cable?

Its cable driven. Cleaning the IAC seems to have helped so far, though the idle when coming to a stop with the hvac going still runs a little rough. Gonna pull the TB and clean it later today, plus i figure I'd might as well do a proper tune up. Havent actually done that yet since buying the car :lol

check the positioning of the return cable (it should have 2) make sure they are tight, my 01 sentra needed it to be tightened once in a while to have correct pedal feel

Is it accelerating even after the pedal returns? Reason I ask is I had my stupid pedal sticking under the edge of my floor mat once.

Throttle position sensor out of calibration?
