Linksys sold to Belkin? My Linksys E2400 is causing me grief and I am afraid that it is about to pack it in :( I started looking around and someone there told me Cisco had sold Linksys to Belkin, and it may or may not be a good idea to buy Linksys anymore... is this true? What is the best router brand to buy at the moment? I do mostly websurfing and streaming video, but not much gaming or bitorrent stuff. Just want something fast, reliable and has a good range. |
The Linksys company was founded in 1988. It is currently owned by Belkin, who bought it from Cisco, its owners from March 2003 to March 2013. Its products were branded as Linksys by Cisco when it was part of Cisco. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linksys |
I suspect the overall best router brand right now is Asus. In my opinion Linksys should not be your choice. I have owned a couple dozen Linksys products. I presently use a Netgear router and I am extremely happy. But I have only used 4 Netgear wireless devices. I am basing my comments solely on the wireless performance. The wired and routing performance of all router has never concerned me. They were all excellent in this regard. |

I picked up one of these the last time it was on sale and I love it, super easy to set up, yet it still has a lot of features and customization should you ever need them. http://www.ncix.com/detail/asus-rt-n...s-01-74303.htm |
the asus N56U, N66U, AC66U r all solid performers, choose based on how much u wanna pay |

No complaints so far, it's had a pile of different laptops and tablets hook up to it without a hitch, whereas my old router used to randomly DC from a lot of laptops for no reason. |

+1 for asus, switched to them a year or two ago and have had no complaints at all, except 5G range being weak but that was when i got the router and every router had weak 5g range |
5Ghz range will always be weaker than the usual 2.4Ghz. The higher the frequency, the more energy it loses passing through walls or the air. |
