PC3 8500U to DDR3 I have a desktop computer that takes PC3 8500U ram. It only has 2GB and would like to buy more. I have noticed that PC3 is hard to find but DDR3 would work. My question is what DDR3 ram 1GB or 2GB would I need? I think the 1333 and 1066 etc is throwing me off. Can someone please help so I can hit NCIX or where ever and pick some up. |
Search NCIX for DDR3-1066. This is what you want. The calculation is: 8500/(8 bits/byte) = 1066 As for what to buy, what is in the computer now? Your answer of 2GB is not good enough. How many stick of what do you have? (i.e. You have $20. Is that one twenty, or two tens?) How many total RAM slots do you have? |
Hi I have a lenovo m58 I have four slots, two are used with 1GB per slot and two free slots. It can take up to 16GB in total. It depends on the price of the memory but at minimum I would like to add 2GB. Eithe 2x1GB or 1x2GB etc. |
Buy 2x1GB. I think 1GB sticks are going to be hard to find at a store. There are all bigger now. I would probably buy faster RAM like 1333 or 1600. It may be cheaper to buy faster. RAM is about $10/GB. You are on a tight budget. Look for RAM that say 1.5v or says nothing at all. |
Ok thanks |
don't worry about the 1333/1066. your computer should automatically adjust the bios settings to make your ram work. most ram for desktop are sold as ddr3 1600 but the bios usually set it down to 1333 because thats what the cpu can handle. |
