Suing strata corp for negligence
 

As mentioned on another thread, the breakins at my complex have gotten worse. Crack heads seem to have no respect for the time of day or anything these days. On Sat around 1-2pm 2-3 cars were broken into. This isn't the first time.. This has been going on for a really long time but now it's seems like it went from bad to worse. The strata council has done jack all about this except for delivering letters saying "stay vigilant." They've even brought cops in to the AGM to address security (so there is a some documentation of these issues). However, it's all talk and no walk.

I'm wondering is it possible to sue the strata corp for damages incurred as a result of their negligence in taking the proper steps to protect the common areas(parking lots) and provide a safe environment for the owners (multiple opened gates/ unsecured access points) as well as potential loss in re-sale value (read some of the minutes and it'll document issues, but most issues are not included in minutes for this very reason)?

Until the strata gets hit where it hurts (the piggy bank), they will continue to spend money on stupid shit.

I know there is a lawyer or two on here.. thoughts? experiences?
