CB Radio Antennae

So I picked up a cheap CB radio the other day, partially just for shits and giggles, and partially because it will come in super handy while using Hwy5 during the winter months. In hindsight, I should have bought one last year before getting stuck up at the Summit during a particularly bad snowfall. :okay:

Anyway, because my winter DD this year is a car as opposed to my old SUV, I need a CB antenna that doesn't have a five hundred foot mast. I know some of you offroaders use CB while on the trails, so I figured someone here might have an answer. I need something with a magnetic base and while I don't want a massive antennae attached to the roof of my car, I'd like something with a decent range.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I have a 68" unit you can try out if you're in town.

CBs are junk. if you're in CB range, you're in library voice range.

real men run VHF

try flying j.

i would recommend getting the firestik antennas if you're looking for a shorter one.

i have a wilson 48" flex/whip antenna. i had a 12" antenna on a magnetic base. sucked donkey balls. i would permanently mount a fender bracket and co-ax cable. and screw an antenna in whenever you need to. don't forget to tune it. 48" antennas are pretty standard and offer decent range.

In the front please. The back would stick up too much...
