CB Radio Antennae So I picked up a cheap CB radio the other day, partially just for shits and giggles, and partially because it will come in super handy while using Hwy5 during the winter months. In hindsight, I should have bought one last year before getting stuck up at the Summit during a particularly bad snowfall. :okay: Anyway, because my winter DD this year is a car as opposed to my old SUV, I need a CB antenna that doesn't have a five hundred foot mast. I know some of you offroaders use CB while on the trails, so I figured someone here might have an answer. I need something with a magnetic base and while I don't want a massive antennae attached to the roof of my car, I'd like something with a decent range. Thoughts? Suggestions? |
I have a 68" unit you can try out if you're in town. :ifyouknow: |
Where do you want it? Spoiler! |
CBs are junk. if you're in CB range, you're in library voice range. real men run VHF |
try flying j. i would recommend getting the firestik antennas if you're looking for a shorter one. |
i have a wilson 48" flex/whip antenna. i had a 12" antenna on a magnetic base. sucked donkey balls. i would permanently mount a fender bracket and co-ax cable. and screw an antenna in whenever you need to. don't forget to tune it. 48" antennas are pretty standard and offer decent range. |
