That way whether you have 1 car or 100, you pay the same insurance (just more reg fees) and if you lend someone your car and they crash it, it goes through their insurance instead of yours.

that would be great but there's no way the province would be for that since the province keeps dipping into ICBC's reserves to maintain a 'balanced budget'

not to mention icbc won't have as many funds to play the market with -_-

2011 accord v6
300 deductible
5 million

199/month

Got a notice last month that I had been under paying for 3 years because of wrong vehicle description. Each year was around 500 - 1000 totalling to 4000ish altogether. Luckily they're waiving it and instructed me to change my vehicle description on renewal.

So nice of icbc.

lilaznviper 10-06-2014 01:26 PM

2009 corolla 40%/2M/$300 Collision & Comprehensive $2300/yr

I was told I pay more because of the neighbour I live in :okay:

Since it's possibly elsewhere, I'm sure it could be done here. The big variable would be what the insurance rates would actually be (and tbh I don't know what the rates are like in the countries that do this), single/no vehicle people would likely go up a bit compared to now.

Car2go is a nice taxi alternative, cause you can drop it off anywhere. For example, a cab from my house to downtown is roughly $25-$30 ish, where as if I took a Car2go, it's only about $8-$15 depending on traffic.

Modo is good if I need a car for an extended amount of time. A lot of perks to this, and a lot of different cars to choose from (Sedans, SUV's, trucks, moving vans, they even have an FRS for god's sake).

It's only $3/hour (maxes at $36 a day even if you keep it for longer, and 11pm-7am is free) with mileage on top. So if you need to take multiple little trips throughout the day with some breaks in between, you're still only paying $3 an hour even if the car's just sitting outside your house. The only downside to Modo/Zipcar is that you need to return it to where you picked it up from. They have them spread out through the city pretty well, so most likely there should be one within a couple blocks from your place.

I sold my cars and I found that between my motorcycle, car2go, modo, and the skytrain station being a couple blocks from my house, my convenience hasn't been interrupted at all, and my monthly costs are still about the same as having a car (gas, insurance, maintenance, etc.) And the money made from the cars was like a bonus :D

Having said all that, I've been kinda itching to get a new car lately.. But with all my transportation options, I really have all the time in the world to decide.

Thanks for the mini review. My car is on life support, so im just riding the gixxer and taking transit. I do miss having a car to drive. Im in burnaby, so only modo is nearby for me.

oh i've no doubt its doable and a good thing
i just doubt the fuckers in power would be willing to give up all that tax revenue that icbc really is

95 integra
30%
no collision
2M
$132/month

on a side note, how much difference does it make if you say you drive the car to work vs leisure?
i've always said car was for leisure (lulz) but my fiancee actually plays by the rules. Her insurance says something like car is used to drive to and from work no more than 15km a day.

When i saw that I was like wtf, never knew there was more to it than just saying you use the car for work.

radioman 10-07-2014 08:12 AM

My car would go from 195 to 175 when I switch to leisure <15km.
$20 not worth the risk....

underscore 10-07-2014 08:35 AM

If you're not gonna get the right insurance there's not much point in getting insurance at all since you'll be pretty screwed if you get into an accident.

6o4__boi 10-07-2014 09:05 AM

lol relax there white knight.

yeah...considering i'll be driving more than the 15km to work i'll probably suck it up and switch up my policy

i didn't give a shit about it before because i lived in van and worked haphazardly (on-call)

i find it complete bullshit that there's levels beyond do you use the car for work or not...fuck icbc

twitchyzero 10-07-2014 09:30 AM

is claim-rated scale adjusted annually? If so I find it preposterous that having 10 years of clean record vs 15 years of clean record is a difference of $600 annually.
I understand the new driver tax if it was the first 5 years...but after 10 years the difference shouldn't be that wide...damn icbc

There's no difference between the discount for basic insurance for 10+ years of clean driving. As your CRS level increases, basic stays at 43% but you continue to get higher discounts on optional coverage.

What's stupid is the CRS maxes out at -20, so theoretically, someone as young as 36 can be at their max discount even though they're probably going to drive for at least another 30 years.

That's what I've always hated as well. Why not let someone get 100% discount on their insurance if they can earn it. It would encourage people to drive safer if they knew that they could get free insurance one day. Let all the other shitty drivers pay for that safe drivers insurance.

Is this actually true? I've heard some people say yes and others no.... I thought it is only based on territory, and GVA is territory D

Fuck that, do you know how impossible it would be to get anything better than 25/75 fault if they had that system?

Nah, sold it to my best friend. After I got married and with a step son and us planning on having one of our own pretty soon, needed more room :accepted:
