I don't think car type affects insurance as much as driving history, location and distance.
'14 CLA45 AMG, $21xx annual with 3M comprehensive and 300 deductible and full replacement value.
'04 Mazda 6 was maybe $150 less with same coverage except replacement value.

Welcome to Vancouver. | ehhh, not entirely true, I registered my truck up in williams lake for awhile as I was based out of there for work, and it saved me a grand total of like 200 bucks a year. My insurance at that point was like $2500 a year.

Previous: 2009 Chrysler Sebring Convertible / 15% / 2M / 500 / 300 / <15km / $2690 per year.
Now: 2011 BMW 335i Coupe / 20% / 2M / 500 / 300 / >15km / $3450 per year.
Edit: Where your car is parked also affects your rates. I was told that Richmond has slightly lower rates than Burnaby & Vancouver.

All my vehicles except the RC have been 2M / $300 deductible / <15km / 43% (or whatever the max is now) and land about $120ish/month. GTFour RC costs a bit less but it's under non-commute use atm (fuckers don't think it's worth anything).

Isn't it worthwhile to raise your collision deductible to $1000+?
I think the savings is worth it and the chance of getting into an AT-fault accident is pretty low unless you are a bad driver lol...

i just can't believe how much ICBC charges, and how they get away with it:
in Vancouver, I drove an 07 TL-s, 43%, approx. $1500 p.a. for $2M Collision, comprehensive, $500 deductible, driving for pleasure only (rates went up every year, even though my car got older and I drove safely/no accidents).
In Europe I live in a very expensive country, but pay 500 Euro a year for similar insurance on a 2011 Audi A3, mind you, road tax is another 600 Euro... so i get fucked one way or another no matter where I am! Mind you, i wouldn't have a car if my work didn't require it, and thankfully they pay for my car, so i mind less.

Fuck the newer cars and that high collision cost | I checked my yearly insurance rates in Alberta and Toronto. Based on my driving history (1 accident in <6 years, 1 minor speeding ticket <4 years, and Class 5 since '01) quotes from Alberta were very similar to here, whereas Ontario jumped up significantly by $200/month.
I genuinely think that it's a case of grass always being greener on the other side...

i could write an essay on what's wrong with ICBC, but it's such an illogical company, run by idiots.

People need to make their message be heard. In the 80's, the AA had a lot of power in the UK, to the point whereby rules got changed when BS things were in place that shouldn't have been, as (certain) ppl in the UK are big time petrol heads!

Car2go is a nice taxi alternative, cause you can drop it off anywhere. For example, a cab from my house to downtown is roughly $25-$30 ish, where as if I took a Car2go, it's only about $8-$15 depending on traffic.
Modo is good if I need a car for an extended amount of time. A lot of perks to this, and a lot of different cars to choose from (Sedans, SUV's, trucks, moving vans, they even have an FRS for god's sake).
It's only $3/hour (maxes at $36 a day even if you keep it for longer, and 11pm-7am is free) with mileage on top. So if you need to take multiple little trips throughout the day with some breaks in between, you're still only paying $3 an hour even if the car's just sitting outside your house. The only downside to Modo/Zipcar is that you need to return it to where you picked it up from. They have them spread out through the city pretty well, so most likely there should be one within a couple blocks from your place.
I sold my cars and I found that between my motorcycle, car2go, modo, and the skytrain station being a couple blocks from my house, my convenience hasn't been interrupted at all, and my monthly costs are still about the same as having a car (gas, insurance, maintenance, etc.) And the money made from the cars was like a bonus
Having said all that, I've been kinda itching to get a new car lately.. But with all my transportation options, I really have all the time in the world to decide.
