Antares launch explosion

This happened earlier today.. Once of these haven't happened in a long while and thankfully it was unmanned so no one was hurt.

It happens. The emergency abort was hit so the rocket self destructed.

Hondaracer 10-28-2014 04:29 PM

+1 for spaceX

Godzira 10-28-2014 04:34 PM

that's what happened to my rocket in grade 7 science after it chased a girl into a goal post.
what went wrong?

aristo-crat 10-28-2014 04:41 PM

I was gonna watch this live earlier but didn't. Regrets!

TOPEC 10-28-2014 06:01 PM

NASA: building the worlds most expensive fireworks since 1958.

Bouncing Bettys 10-28-2014 06:06 PM

Not surprised some people are bitching about wasting taxpayer money when they fail to realise the entire NASA budget is a mere drop in the bucket when compared to their military budget. The Iraq War was money well spent?

We seem to need periodic reminders that we have a long way to go before we could ever say we have conquered space flight. What an awesome and humbling lesson. As they say: I fucking love science!

yray 10-28-2014 06:28 PM

LOL, I almost won a Darwin award with my first model rocket when I was maybe 11? Launched it, went up parachute didn't deploy came straight down I got under it thinking I'll catch it...........I jumped out of the way at the last second and instead of hitting my in the head it embedded a foot into the hard packed dirt. I laugh about it now but I'm not even kidding it would have killed me instantly.

46_valentinor 10-28-2014 07:14 PM

view of the explosion from a nearby cessna!

urrh 10-28-2014 07:42 PM

i would've thought the air space would be closed so close to a launch

MG1 10-28-2014 07:55 PM

Isn't it a private rocket? Not taxpayer's money........ shit like this may actually make/save money for NASA. Too lazy to research it.

Nope, it had 5000lbs of equipment going to the space stations including lots of food.

Ulic Qel-Droma 11-01-2014 02:22 AM

it doesnt matter. it's not a waste of money. you can be damned sure they learnt from this mistake. it's a learning process. they aint gonna let the same shit happen again. better it happen now than later when they have people on board.

xeryusx 11-01-2014 03:53 AM

Holy shit! That was awesome..only cos it was unmanned lol

Hondaracer 11-01-2014 08:15 AM

The Virgin spaceship must be terrifying to ride in lol, be dropped from the host plane then ride the rocket booster to the edge of space and glide back in? Lol
