Is Lien-Free mandatory/required from a used car dealer? The car dealer first sent me a Claims BC Carproof report from reports.carproof.com, but it did not contain any Lien status on there. I asked him why did he not get the verified BC Carproof, he responded with: "when you buy any car from us we will give you lien free report . and just for your information when you buy car from any dealer in British Columbia dealer always responsible for lean free ." Does the dealer have to proof lien-free or do we got to buy the verified BC reports ourselves? |

The dealer is required to ensure the vehicle is lien free. There is no need for you to check as if there was ever a problem, the dealer would be obligated to satisfy it. -Mark |
I would do my own lien check if it was a Kingsway dealer! |
Anytime a car is taken in on trade the salesperson is suppose to collect the insurance papers; the receptionist then prints the carproof report checking on damage history and to verify free from liens. This is suppose to be shown and eventually given to potential new owner. Hope this helps |
Doesn't a carproof report always show lien status on a vehicle? I recently went to a few dealers for a used car and all the carproof reports shown to me listed the lien status. |
Technically a dealer is obligated to ensure that the vehicle is lien free but it's always best to do you own search. You can purchase a lien check on BC Online for like 10 bucks. The dealer could be a jerk store about it and then it becomes a civil matter, which can be expensive and time consuming. |
