Winter stereo builds...
 

Ok, this forum is looking a little slow these days. This rainy, gloomy weather isn't helping us car guys with some modification motivation.

That said, what projects are you guys working on for winter in regards to stereo stuff? I'll start:

After recently having a baby (well, my wife did...I just cut the cord), my time is very limited. My plans for a sweet system for the old 1970 Dart have been put on hold. Now I have been focusing on getting my 2010 Honda Fit up and running with Bass and a nice component set up so I can drive daily with kickass sound.

before that im planning to do some sound deadening to the interior

suggestions for a mat to help quiet road noise and a bit of exhaust noise?

Well, my intent was to create conversation here so I will try to avoid any sales pitch. :whistle:

For sound deadening you will want to get something that is poly-butyl (rubber) based. Dynamat Extreme is a good example but quite expensive. There are a lot of other options like Hushmat, silent cote or Focal Bam Mat that will do this trick nicely. Of course it also depends on if you want to reduce road noise or rattle.

i wouldnt mind seeing some prices thrown around to give me an idea of what im getting into


for the system it will be a cheap s type with a 500w v12 or something, luckily i get discount at future shop so i can have that under 200$

im in between a shallow box, or mayba having something made to replace the spare tire also, but these old hondas vent the moister out the bottom so im not sure thats a good idea

as goes for the sound deadening. i notice when it rains i get alot of noise in the wheel wells, so something over the wheel wells, doors and maybe some at the back of the trunk. im probably looking at about 50sq ft

surprisingly i dont get any rattles at all . 490,xxx km and everything is fine so far

just like with my hatch im trying to make this thing comfortable as a daily so i enjoy driving it.. later will come the plans to make it fast

Looking to redo the stereo in my car. '92 MR2. It once had a decent sound system, but over time things started breaking, wires started to fray and come undone.

Need some advice. I'm not an audiophile by any means, but would like some okay-sound in the small cabin of my car. I don't think my car can still use the oem audio plugs, so I will need to rewire everything.

Ideally, I'd like a new or newer single din, new door speakers and new tweeters, and new amp(s). It's a shame, I don't even know what equipment is in my car currently. They're installed under my seat which makes it hard to look. I just want to replace everything and wire it up over the winter. Or pay someone..

I just bought a cheapo deck off Bestbuy (should I return it?) Alpine CDE-145BT.

I had Quart 5.25'' door speakers (component?) one seem to have blown.

And I have some old amps and subwoofer amps under my seat, which I want to replace.

Question:
Which speakers would you suggest? 5.25'', component? entry level?
Which amps would you suggest? Stereo, mono, sap? I don't even know the lingo or difference..
Gauge wiring I need to buy?

How much should I budget? The deck was.. $130 I think. I am not brand specific, but should I be? Thoughts would be much appreciated!


p.s. I think Mike has helped me with my car before, when I had a bad ground (alternator whine).

JL C3-650 speakers
JL 10W6V3 sub (Just purchased from the Black Friday sale at Sounds Good Burnaby! Thanks Ruben for the awesome price)
JL Slash 300/4v2 amp for the speakers and a JL HD 750/1 amp for the sub

Just saving up for a DSP (Probably the Mosconi 6to8) and getting some sound deadening and then I can finally get started on the install. This "build" has been going on for well over a year now just because it isn't my first priority and audio equipment gets pretty expensive.

What kind of car? Sounds like a fun project!

I have 1 JL 12 sitting at home, and one 10" sub still in packaging sitting at home. No amp, and have yet to intstall it, lol.

Do you have any ideas on any options for a DSP? Seems like one of the more popular options is the Mosconi 6to8

My little side project Civic, really needs some new life in the stereo dept.

Thankfully orgasm_donor was able to get all 4 speakers working again (thanks again for the great work/service as always!)

Which in turn reminds me how poopy the speaker are in the car to begin with. JVC drvn speakers up front, and some Sony 6x9's in the back. Previous owner should have saved his money lol. I'll eventually get around to upgrading them.

Was able to install an amp for a sub, but don't have a sub/box to run. Which is tough, because I want to keep the weight down, but most half decent subs weigh a ton lol. Just a simple 10" will do, as I can't live without some bottom end. Suggestions welcome!

Seeing that I'm focusing my time/energy/money on motor and suspension upgrades right now, I'm trying to keep the stereo upgrades on the cheap, and even watching for decent used stuff to pop up.

We have the 6to8 on display at both of our shops. Bring your laptop and play with it for a while. Tell us what you think...

Bought my JL 10W6V3, and HD750/1 from soundsgood on boxing day.

Can't wait to take my car back to them to get it all installed.

im looking for some advice!


so im picking up a 500w alpine v12 mono amp

running an 8 gauge wire setup with an infinity kappa 10" (100.9)

i dont know what to do for a box. the infinity website dosnt specify how large the box should be but its a pretty deep sub (6" mounting depth)

suggestion? im thinking i would like a sealed box just because 10" are a very punchy sub and i like that characteristic of them but i still want the deep low bass.. so maybe a ported?

I prefer ported because generally speaking, you get more output and lower bass than sealed. If you like rap, hip hop, house and techno, ported is usually better. If you listen to a lot of rock, country, polka, Celine Deon or circus music, sealed has more 'kick drum punch'.

If you need a box designed or built, I am the guy to talk to. :)

haha yeah im probably going to have to grab some dyno mat from u soon if i get good guy snail price

the reason i ask about box size is because most companies like alpine/jl post alot of info on box specs.. but i cant find anything for infinity so im likly going to get a generic ported box

unfortunately i dont wanna spend more then 50-100 on a box so maybe having somthing made is out of my price range :(

We have them pre-fabs too. Good snail price too. Haha!

well im probably going to pick up my system tomorrow. ill see what futurshop had for 1.5cu ported boxes with staff price, if im not happy ill send you a pm for box and sound deadener
