Shipping a steering wheel with an airbag

Couldn't find relevant information with a search, so here goes.

Canada Post says that under miscellaneous dangerous goods, airbags are not mailable items.

Here's my situation:
I bought a steering wheel from Germany (oem wheel only to German market mr2) and it has an airbag in it. I don't really need the airbag, but both the seller and I are avoiding opening it up to take out the airbag. In Germany, according to seller, he's been fine before shipping steering wheels with airbags. Canada post doesn't say anything about receiving full steering wheels with airbags inside them, but one can assume/interpret it different ways.

How would you guys go about this issue? It's not necessary for me to have the airbag since my car has never had an airbag, however the seller has no experience separating the airbag from the hornpad.

Thanks RS.

Find a shipper that will ship dangerous goods. Do keep in mind that there are expensive fees associated with shipping dangerous goods, and the surcharges can run rather deep depending on the company. For a dealership it's a pain in the ass shipping airbag components to body shops up north, and paying for the surcharges for transporting, even if it's just a seatbelt pretensioner.

I got a steering wheel with an airbag for my MR2 sent to me from Hong Kong like 4 years ago no issues at all. I then sold it (decided not to install it) half a year ago to someone in the USA and shipped it to them again no issues... That said I didn't didn't get asked any questions and I didn't offer any information that I wasn't asked for. Ignorance is bliss? :concentrate:

In your situation I dont know what you're worried about, it's all on the seller if there are any problems. Just tell him to send it and be done. If for some reason it gets denied you get your money back.

Maybe check the rules for the US and see if it can be shipped to Blaine/PR? Might be a bit of hassle but if there are no other options it might be your last resort.

Rules wise, it has an explosive in it and is considered a dangerous good.
As for real world, most place will ship it without thinking about it. Just get them to ship it to you, if there is an issue the customs brokers will contact the seller.

maybe take a look at the ebay auctions that sell airbags and see what kind of shipping services they offer and use that as a starting point?
