lol I was just mentioning that I spent a few months with my gf (at the time) bouncing around SE Asia and probably took AirAisa two dozen times in various countries. Scary that all this shit is happening recently. Glad we made it home safe.

the scary part is that this had happened three times now

Ludepower 12-30-2014 01:36 PM

Booked my air asia flight just last week too...yolo haha :heckno:

Not surprised this is happening. Third world countries with shoddy airports and skeptical maintenance procedures.

Isn't Air Asia like Allegiant ? E.g. Discount Airline that buys second hand 30 year old planes from other carriers ?

hud 91gt 12-30-2014 02:04 PM

When it rains it pours.

It's just going to happen more and more. As air travel grows, aircraft technology requires less and less experienced crews on a day to day basis. That is, until something goes wrong... You can feel safe in Canada as every airline in the country has fairly experienced (in the grand scheme of things) crews who have flown more then just a simulator in the past.

not at all....every single air asia flight i've been on was a newish plane (6-8 years max)

they have something like 180 aircraft with 200 more on order

Three out of thousands is a pretty small percentage.

These pilots were experienced, something like left seat had 6000 and right seat had 2500hrs. Supposedly they asked for a clearance to get a higher alt but separation minimas kept them low. This is what my dad told me and I actually haven't read fuck all on the accident.

Yes, the pilot asked 2x to fly at a higher altitude, but his request was denied because of other aircraft in the area.

Sorry simple answer is if your flying into a dangerous situation, you change your routing, even if your not cleared. That isn't exactly a highly experienced crew but certainly not the worst. The captain was a military guy, so they are generally a little lower time then their civilian counterparts.

You really don't know what you're talking about. Singapore's Changi airport is probably the most advanced in the world. Air Asia hasn't had a single noticeable incident or fatality till now for it's entire history and it flies to more places than Westjet.

All of you armchair pilots need to shut your mouth and wait for the investigation to come to it's conclusion before you continue shooting it off.

yray 12-31-2014 09:25 AM
