Where to watch the sunrise?
 

Wife and I and having our anniversary this Sunday. Any suggestions on where to watch the sun RISE? Obviously being in the west the sunsets are easy to find but what about the sunrise? Burnaby mountain?

I was going to suggest taking a 7am ferry to Victoria, watch the sunrise on the boat and make a day of it (I went last week, it was gorgeous) but it's supposed to rain Sunday so you'll want to make a contingency plan.

The bonus of this method, doesn't have to be early in the morning. Which means she can get her beauty sleep.

Just sit behind a building and wait for the sun to come over the roof. You could watch the sunrise like 10 times in one day. Doesn't get any more special than that. :troll:

How about taping a sunrise and watch it when you wake up regularly.

My serious contribution: Seymour mountain, hike up in the morning, sunrise is around 8am right now. There is snow on the path, so I suggest some waterproof hiking boots, snowshoes optional.

On a serious note as well, if someone has never done this hike, is it wise that the first time they do it is in the dark when it is potentially negative degrees outside?

Disclaimer: I don't know the trail, but based on the potential need for snowshoes i'd be concerned.

Theres a ton of light up there well before sunrise btw. The whole sky is lit up, you just dont physically see the sun yet. The hike is totally beginner friendly, just hike up to dog mountain or even brockton point where the chair lift is.

And you do not need snowshoes at all. Theres a couple of older guys who make first trails with some north shore rescue guys, so as long as you stay on the paths of others, you will not run into problems. Snowshoes only potentially needed if you want to make your own paths.

@OP, anyways, sunday is suppose to rain. So maybe just cruise somewhere in a car and watch it from the inside if you must.

If you don't have a lowered car, there's a cool little southeast-facing lookout with a bench on Sumas Mountain here in Abby... it's a gravel road to get there, but any stock Honda should have no problem with it. Should make for a spectacular sunrise looking out across the Fraser Valley.

How high is this? How longs the drive?

Coordinates 49° 06.900' N, 122° 09.034' W (plug it into Google Earth... Google Maps will actually give directions to it)... it's about a half hour from my place in central Abby. Not sure what the altitude is... mapcoordinates.net puts it at 711m.
