If you're happy with using chrome + google suite for all of your stuff they're a great deal. I can't speak for you but when I was in school we had to muck around with word and excel files which are formatted really messy. These would be a nightmare to deal with in google docs.
Next time you're on your PC open chrome, full screen it and pretend you can't X out of it. That's what a chromebook is kinda like. If you need stuff outside Chrome like iTunes, Photoshop, Word you may need another type of laptop.
