Saw my first airdrop today. Basically there needs to be at least 50 people on the server before you can call in an airdrop. I watched the crate float to the ground, it gives off this bright green smoke as well to alert everyone where it is. Along with the loud plane that drops it. Anyways by the time it dropped down, there was already 10+ people meleeing it out trying to get the loot. And there was a guy with a gun, which could have been anyone, that pretty much got the loot because he massacred most of them. Thus even though it seems to be P2W, good luck getting the loot from your own airdrop.

It's much more relaxed than dayz. Early access so there's still tons of features to be implemented. Lots of crafting recipes and more to be added later.
Anyone wanting to try the game out, I have no affiliation with geeknerd, but he is offering 20% steam games. He has a buy and sell thread in the used computer sub thread. I was going to purchase through him but I had more than the 20% discount sitting in my steam wallet so I just used that. Saves you a couple of bucks anyways.

1) Crates: much like csgo. You can get crates randomly when you play(i think), but keys cost $2.50. In the crates there will be cosmetic items. For example you can get a checked polo(just made that up), and for you to use that skin, you need to have a polo(made that up too) in game so you can apply the skin on the item you already have. Once you open a crate and get a skin, you will have that skin tied to your account, so if you die, you will still be able to skin items you find in game.
2) Airdrops: you can purchase airdrops for this game. There are several types of airdrops, each containing a set number of items which can include guns and ammunition. So yes, you can buy loot with money.
As for my experience with airdrops thus far. You cannot deploy an airdrop until 1/4 of the server is full, server size is 200 players so you need 50 players minimum in a 64km^2 map(at the moment) and dayz map is roughly 250km^2 for comparison.
The airdrop gets dropped by a loud ass plane which can be heard by everyone, you can see the plan above in the clouds as well. Run towards the direction it is going. Next it drops this airdrop crate that is spewing green glowing smoke which further alerts people to where it is on the map. The airdrop crate falls at a slow pace. By the time you reach the location of the drop, there will be fair number of players waiting to loot it. But since most servers are PvP, you need to put in some work before getting loot.
Originally I didn't like the idea, but after experiencing it now, I'm fine with it. Loot from crates only last till you die anyways. And just because you call in an airdrop doesn't mean you will get the contents in the crate. Thus someone who doesnt pay a penny into this game(waits for release) can get good gear.
Everything found in the airdrop can be found normally in the server.
As for the scam part, initially they said airdrops will not have guns and ammunition or anything that will give a player advantage. But a few days upon releasing, they said they have decided to include guns, ammunition, items from the game in the airdrop. Now since everyone jumps on the wagon(not directed at you luder, just the bandwagoners on reddit etc), no one forced them to purchase the game even with the last minute change on the airdrop situation. At least they offered a refund to the people who got butthurt over it. But as I see it, games always change mechanics while in alpha, beta, early access, etc. And from my experiences, I dont see airdrops as an issue. As I have already found an AR, hunting rifle, and ammo, which I can use to secure an airdrop and steal the contents from the person who paid real money for the drop.
At the moment, the amount of loot does suck, as in you check a lot of things and maybe only find 1 or 2 items. But that is/was getting patched up in the recent fix/fixes.
Forgot to mention you get Event Tickets as well (i think they said they cost approx $1 later on). Event Tickets are used for Battle Royale servers, right now its not complete because BR servers have 200 people like the normal servers, but they intend to tone it down to 48 or so players. Each game will cost you 1 ticket, and the winner/top X players will receive something(so ive read). At the moment because its not all set up, BR is free and I dont know if there are any awards.

I haven't looked at any reviews, but I watched some twitch streams. The game looks interesting, but it's way too early to be worth buying right now. It might be worth getting before full release, but it certainly doesn't look like it now.

imo, its either buy now or download for free after full release. since the price wont change from day 1 to day 180(approx 6 months, also just an estimate).
