HID bulbs
 

i currently have an oem D3S bulb that died.

this is what the internet says i have:

i don't have much experience in replacing HID bulbs. Are they supposed to be replaced as pairs because the other one will die soon, or is just the one enough?

also, who is the best place locally for HID bulbs? is it still overseas auto?

i trolled craigslist and these came up but i don't know much about them:

Ideally, you'd want to change them as a pair because the other one will have colour shifted so you'll have mismatched lights and yes the other bulb will be nearing the end of it's life as well.

The first link is for a D2S / D2R bulbs. While the guy mentions bulbs under $85 are fakes, I am not sure his are genuine Phillips bulbs at his prices.
D2S is for Projector HID headlights while D2R bulbs are for HIDS that still use reflectors like most halogen headlights.

You said you need a D3S bulb. You can try asking them if they carry the D3S bulbs as they claim they do in their ad.

As for the second link, I've never tried the Hyperion bulbs but RPM is a pretty decent looking company for the 1 time that I dealt with them.
But again, I would buy a pair of bulbs and it's nice that they are local and offer a 1 year warranty on the bulb.

But buyer beware as you may be getting what you are paying for as it seems like Phillips D3S bulbs are pretty expensive from TRS.

ugh i didn't think of stuff like color shifting...

yeah the ad is for the d2s/r and like you said they mentioned they carry d3s also.

just called the dealership and they said even at discounted cost it was $392 per bulb for oem :cry:

I'll never go back to the $tealership for bulbs.
Their prices are way over inflated.

I'm not too sure about the D3 series bulbs, but for my truck, I tried buying some cheaper D2R bulbs and it turns out it was some generic bulb with a D2S/D2R universal base so the beam was way off when they were on. The main part of the beam was shading to the right which made driving at night very dangerous because there was no light aimed at the road directly in front of me. But at $40 for the pair, I should have known better.
