Does anyone know a good instructor or driving school for class 5?
 

Bout to finally get my class 5, and I thought I should get an instructor to help me brush up on my driving skills (can't be skrring past the stop signs anymore).

Does anyone have any recommendations for someone who's looking for a few hourly lessons, in Richmond preferably?

Why do you even need an instructor? You need someone sitting next to you to help you control from speeding and not coming to a full stop at a stop sign?

I suppose just someone letting me know what's on the class 5 test, as well as, reminding me of anything that might be points-dockable.

The class 5 test is like the class 7 test, a lot more easier in a sense that there's not much parking. You have to go on the highway though.

Assuming you drive like everyday or every other day, an instructor isn't required since you should have already learned to drive in a proper manner. Just keep to the speed limit and watch for parks/school zones.

When you merge on the highway, do it safely. You can go as fast as you want to merge, but slow down once you're in the lane.

Make sure you find an instructor familiar with your area (or the area you're taking the exam in). My instructor took me on almost all the roads that the examiner did and he also told me of all the areas of caution (eg: stop signs, merge lanes, etc...). The exam was a piece of cake.

The class 5 in general is a lot easier than the N imo... they just want to make sure you didn't pick up any bad habits and are still driving safely. The 'hardest' part is going on the highway and merging.

Why would I suggest against getting an instructor if I used one? What information do you need that you cannot find online? I can understand if some people want an instructor for Class 7 since it's the first time they are driving and some people may not have access to a car to practice.

But hey, if you got money to spend, feel free. Just saying it's perfectly unnecessary.

All you have to do is go on the highway and reverse park at the end.

one of my buddies recently got failed because he didnt stop at a pedestrian crosswalk. thing is the pedestrian was zoned into the phone and didnt make eye contact so he proceeded. apparently your supposed to stop at pedestrian cross walks even if there is no eye contact and the person was blatantly zoned into their phone.

I got an instructor for my class 7 but not my class 5. Class 5 is pretty easy. Just shoulder check, actually full stop before moving and turning at appropriate times, pretty easy.

Class 5 test guide;

Don't speed.

Shoulder check. Often.

Don't speed.

Obey signs.

Come to full stop, look both ways.

Don't speed.

I didn't have to do that part lol. I think my instructor just wanted out of the car, he was so uncomfortable. I took the exam in the rx7 and my examiner was like 6'5+ he got in and was all scrunched up.

Didn't need any instructor

It's a lot easier then Class 7 because you're alot more comfortable on the road
Only difference is that you on the highway for a minute or two and take the first exit lol

Appreciate all the replies, my test is in March, so these days I'll drive a little more civil, and keep an eye out for all signs (don't want to run any lil kiddies over :))

i took quite a few lesson for 7N, then one referesher before 5 just in case I picked up on some bad habit that I wasn't aware of. I wish the education here would focus more on defensive driving...unless you took Young Drivers those precautions aren't usually taken until one gets into an accident/near-miss

As mentioned, come to a full stop AT the line not after, shoulder check nice and early, not as you turn, dead on the speed limit, obviously watch for playgrounds (dawn to dusk) and schools (usually 8am to 5pm school days), scan left then right as you go through intersections, all that kind of stuff. You'll be fine.

Agreed. I did Young Drivers and while I don't think it was completely necessary it taught me some good things that I still use today. It's definitely made me a more confident driver.

Passed mine on the second try last month and I thought it was about the same difficulty-wise as the 7N test, maybe even a bit easier. Isn't hard to pass, you just gotta be extra careful. Think about some habits you might have picked up (rolling stops, not signalling on lane changes, going over the limit, just to name a few) and try to practice the correct ways maybe a week or so in advance. There is no parallel parking on the class 5 test, but there is highway driving. Super easy. Thankfully my examiner was a bro and told me virtually everything I needed to know about the test before we got in the car. Kept that in mind and passed no problem. I'd say getting an instructor for your class 5 prep is a waste of money, you can do all the practising for cheap on your own.

I should add I failed the first time because I didn't see the school zone signs and as a result continued going 50kph. Instant fail. Make sure you watch for those too.
