Receiving random phone calls from 778-389-****

Is anyone else receiving these calls?

I'm curious since I have been receiving these phones calls randomly for the past couple of months that start with 778-389-****

so far;

778-389-4874 - No name
778-389-2960 - Chao Wang
778-389-5691 - Jillian Hansen
778-389-2641 - Gurtej Hehar
778-389-6222 - Matthew Traher

I've picked up the call every time and there is no response on the other line. I've tried googling' the numbers and have found zero results.

It's most likely just :spamarama: but any feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers

basically they are all spam

a lot of people have been getting the same type of calls...not sure how they do it, but the caller id always show numbers that has the same area code and first 3 digits as your own number...
Those # usually belongs to some (real) people, but they didn't actually call you..

Actually, your # probably showed up on other ppl's caller id too, because I've had a few random guys call back and said they missed a call from my number but I never called them... they all have the same first 3 digits as my # too

Btw, when I pickup the call, usually it is a recorded message saying I won some prize from Westjet or some other airlines or hotel..etc

I just ignore every call that starts with the first 6 digits of my cell. Happens to me weekly.

BrRsn 02-09-2015 10:51 AM

I get the same thing, except all the numbers start with the same area code/first 3 digits of my cell

Freaky

Just wait until you start getting calls from numbers that are the area code + first three digits of your number, but +011 as the international code instead of 1.

Hello, Malaysia.

matrixfwd 02-09-2015 11:34 AM

Hang up right away because if you respond to the 'win a prize' by pressing 0 or 1 or whatever, the immediately connect you to 3rd party long distance call where you will be billed for the cost.

Mr.HappySilp 02-09-2015 11:39 AM

I don't even pick them now. Google the number and if is not important I block that number.

AzNightmare 02-09-2015 11:43 AM

lol, my phone is set to not ring for any numbers not in my contact list. If you have an Android, you should be able to do that. Not sure if iPhone has a feature like that, but it's pretty convenient.

I do have voicemail so I figured if it's really important from some mysterious person not on my contact list, they can leave their message there.

Welp, I know never to use my life line on AzNightmare

keifun 02-09-2015 01:49 PM

I get the same calls too. Same first 3 digits of my number. I get an automated recording saying I won a trip from mariott hotels..

Klondike 02-09-2015 02:03 PM

I get calls from Malaysia and the number starts with the first 3 digits of my own number.

It looks like +60 4-838 xxxx (there is a space between the 60 and 4)

yay for call block :toot:

knight604 02-09-2015 02:14 PM

Number spoofs.

KDMofo 02-09-2015 03:22 PM

There's an app for that. A few years ago I use to have it on my blackberry and you can basically use anyone's number to call people. One time when my friends ordered pizza hut, we kept calling him with 604-310-1010 telling him that the driver is outside.

tiger_handheld 02-09-2015 04:41 PM

good to know i'm not the only one this happens to.

anyone know how this technology works?

willystyle 02-09-2015 07:53 PM

I've been getting random 604-771 (same as my mobile number) and random 778 numbers as well. I've tried calling back one of the numbers, but the caller on the other end said they never called me.

That's funny because I get the same thing, except all the numbers start with the same area code/first 3 digits of my cell

Very Freaky Indeed

danned 02-10-2015 07:04 AM

6o4__boi 02-10-2015 07:36 AM

I've never been charged anything.

I always dial 1 at least to make someone come onto the phone. Say Yes I am over 30 and yes I have a credit card after which you get transferred to a second person who talks and talks. I just put the phone down and they hang up eventually

If I'm bored I'll keep it going when I hear "Hello? Hello?" Then I say "yes, go on." or "Can you repeat the question?"
