School me on San Diego

Booked a last minute flight to San Diego this upcoming weekend. Will be staying in Carlsbad and was hoping to get some suggestions on what are must see/eat/do in the area.

Carlsbad is a pretty nice area.. carlsbad outlet is there as well but I personally didn't like it ( they didn't have Nike outlet when i went April 2014) but they have it now I heard. Would I stay in the area again? probably not, unless i'll be going to legoland. we only did it to try and stay at oceanfront hotel lol

if the weather is good, rent a bike (lots of bike shops along la jolla) and do a ride along the beach side. A good variety of restaurants to choose from.

Sea world is the only thing I know about san diego...

Things to do:

San Diego Zoo
San Diego Zoo Safari Park (same company/organization as San Diego Zoo)
Legoland
Seaworld

If you are going to San Diego, you might think about driving to LA, and that takes only 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Carlsbad has a bunch of nice beaches.

Smoke a joint then go to the San Diego Zoo.

Good surfing there if its not too chilly. Cross into Tijuana for a night.

why carlsbad? that's just an industrial type subburb (lots of warehouses/ business parks and houses).

actual san diego is the best place on earth (sorry vancouver). balboa park, san diego zoo are a must.

loads of amazing places to eat (phil's bbq for one) - go to the gaslamp area for great nightlife, bars and restaurants

coronado beach is probably one of the nicest places on earth, the whole community is awesome

la jolla is one of the richest neighbourhoods in the US, boutique shops, beautiful coastline

there's also plenty of outlets, if u have a car (carlsbad and by the Mexican border).

Carlsbad because I'll be visiting some family friends that live there. Just hoping for some alternative suggestions on what some must see and do activities are aside from the typical things ive read through google search.

Will have a car so I anticipate a lot of driving. Thanks for the suggestions guys!

If you are like me and my wife, food was the highlight of SD. For chicken and waffles go to Hash House a go-go. Same chain as the one in vegas.

if you are a top chef fan, go to juniper and ivy. They actually have 2 restaurants from their alumni -- that and Searsucker.

Here's some pix and review of what we ordered at each:

went to searsucker and it was alright.. in general i felt the food was slightly over salted but the service and atmosphere were great.

Definitely need to go back to SD and have more food, food was definitely the highlight of the trip.
