Anyone sell their car to the US and ship it? Got questions.

Someone from New Jersey wants to buy my car. I obviously have my concerns about doing this, since there's so many things that can go wrong. To add to this I know nothing about the purchaser (no forum history or anything). I have 3 main questions;

1) Whats the best way to receive payment so I dont get screwed in case he tries to scam me (claiming he didnt receive the car or something). I know PayPal has a certain type of insurance, but the 3% rate might kill the deal since it will be fairly high on $10k. What about a service like MoneyGram? I use that to send money to family in Europe, but is it safe with this type of transaction?

2) I told the buyer that he's responsible for finding a shipping company and any accompanying insurance coverage, that I'd just drive it to the site and drop it off. Am I at all responsible for how the car is shipped (in case it gets damaged during shipping)? Is there anything in particular I should do to cover myself? Take pictures? Fill out any particular paperwork?

3) Anyone have successfully done this? What company did you use that you can recommend? Any company I should stay away from?

...any further insight into this would be greatly appreciated!! I'm getting ridiculously low offers locally (not surprisingly lol), so I'm forced to consider this option.

I wouldn't risk it.

Well, the "risk" is what I'm trying to avoid by covering my basis, so I can ensure its a risk-free transaction.

I see it being done on forums all the time, just wanted some advise from someone who has actually done it.

3% on paypal is $300. Hardly a deal breaker for a safe transaction.

Yea thats definitely true..

I just came up with another question. The car is originally a US car (it was imported into Canada a few years ago). Do I have to re-import it back to the US?
I have a feeling I dont need to worry about any of that, can I just drive it there on temporary plates and have it shipped?

paypal as a seller is the worst. make him wire it to you or money gram/western union. there's no 'insurance' from paypal. Paypal now gives 6 months for the buyer to complain and do a reversal (on my Canadian account anyways).
