autowest bmw just crashed the in-laws X1

Hey all,

I don't know the full details but all i know is that 2 techs where driving ( 1 with a 7 series and the other was my in-laws X1 ) and the 7 series smashed into the X1. They didn't mention the extent of the damage, but all they said is that they will repair the X1 at their cost. A courtesy Vehicle will be provided until the repairs are complete.

- X1 was a lease and its currently year 2 of the 4 year lease.
- should it be reported to ICBC?
- could autowest screw my in-laws when the SUV is returned?

I was thinking of heading down to Autowest and taking care of the pictures but wasn't sure.

EDIT : received pictues. ill try to upload them later when i get the chance.

- Bumped ripped off from left side
- left headlight smashed
- pic is not clear but looks like slight damage to crash bar.
- no airbags deployed.

whats your take on this REVSCENE GODS ?

Not sure how things work in this situation with a lease but maybe call the lease company and see how it could effect them?

Berzerker 02-21-2015 01:14 PM

If you call the lease company they will know there is damage. This is a situation where IF the shop fixes it themselves you don't "have" to declare the damage on resale or lease return. If you go through ICBC it will be documented and you'll have to declare the damage over $2000. Resale value and lease return value will suffer.

Berz out.

maxx 02-21-2015 01:34 PM

as long as its fixed at a bmw accredited shop, you are ok.

good thing they leased it, doesnt matter how many times they crash it, its not their car. just dont buy it out at the end.

Oh and lease value does not change with collisions or other claims

GC8 02-21-2015 01:43 PM

Considering this is Autowest BMW why would you worry? Maybe if it was some random body/mechanic shop. I am also guessing they even leased it from Autowest? if not it doesnt change much. Sucks that it happened I would be pissed too but at least its a lease.

Because dealerships would never try to weasel their way out of it.

OP is just trying to cover his ass and rightfully so.

I would talk to the top manager of auto west right away and get it signed IN WRITING that upon the lease return you will not be held accountable for any punitive expenses in "refreshing the vehicle for resale".

They are a company, and if you don't protect your goddamn neck, they will screw you over

StanleyR 02-21-2015 03:24 PM

it's an x1....who cares?

white rocket 02-21-2015 06:42 PM

Just make sure you get documentation of the repairs. If it goes through AutoWest and not an insurance company then there will be no record of the repairs. Perhaps that is the better route for re-sale or returning to the leasing company. Check to see what their obligations are to the leasing company at lease end. Some charge for over mileage and damage but others have guaranteed residuals so the damage and repair may affect the sale value.

gripenM 02-21-2015 09:50 PM

-it was clearly their fault but these things happen and they admitted and did not hide anything
-they will fix it right to pre-accident conditions at no cost to your in-laws, like someone said, it's not a joe blow shop,
-it's a lease, so no need to worry about dimished value
-it's an X1, they're dime a dozen.. if they like it that much, they can lease the next gen after

why worry?

I don't understand, how can professional technician especially in high end dealership get into accidents with customer cars???

BEEB 02-21-2015 11:32 PM

Autowest BMW technicians always drive customer cars out for lunch, their technician loves Sushi.

Accidents can happen at any time anywhere. The car and dealership being high end doesn't make it immune to that. The sheer amount of cars they deal with means something is going to happen at some time.

I believe 45, all look pretty much the exact same with a couple exceptions. Basically the same shit as Porsche, who make 51 (21 of which are 911's) that all look basically the exact same.

multicartual 03-17-2015 12:46 PM

X1 + 302 + T5 = win
