^^ Do you still have any contacts there that could hook us up, so that we don't have to go through the whole threaten-to-cancel-unless-you-get-a-better-deal, and if you don't get a deal, call back to a different agent?

Anyone Looking at CIK's Promo of $29.99 for Cable 25M ?

Fibre to the home/condo only is there if you happen to live in a brand new subdivision/building built in the last few years. Otherwise the fibre is only going to the SAC boxes in your neighborhood, the last leg is still over the copper pair to your house.

The shared bandwidth between the Optik service and DSL is shared there's no getting around the technical limitations, you've got the basics correct, but most metro areas have had improvements to the bandwidth.

If you had the 15 Mbps internet, and Optik, your profile on the system was at least 19 Mbps. Your ADSL speed was capped at 15, but the TV 5 Mbps per HD channel would subtract from your 19 Mbps profile.

Generally most areas in the LM are 25-35 Mbps capable now. I know from friends that still work there that they're testing out pair bonding where you get 2x the bandwidth by running your internet line via 2 lines to your house.

line powering at its best. so re-using existing copper to power ONTs and laying new foundation of fiber...

Anyone using Lightspeed?

Called shaw asked if they could match Lightspeed and they said they'd give me $15 off my bill for the next 12 months :|

Also anyone know if I can keep my @shaw.ca email address if I have TV and Phone with them? the account is still active so I should technically be able to right?

I wish. Even current employees can't get personal contacts in other depts (with manager approval) to do that anymore.

knew a business using lightspeed and it was horrible. tech support sucked and speeds where never where it is suppose to be.

CIK Telecom Inc. - Toronto, ON | Yelp

looks like it's a chinese company with decent speeds/price and terrible customer support. sounds like a chinese company alright.

but i'm curious if it really is unlimited or not.

Culverin 03-17-2015 09:21 AM

So out of the 3rd party ISP, it seems like the consensus is TekSavvy is the least worst?

I'm looking to move to their Cable 25 package.

They seem to have a modem purchase/rent-to-own option.
Except there is only 1 modem option.
And it doesn't include wireless capabilities.

Are there any other supported modems you guys would suggest?
Or just stick with the one they offer?

Ulic Qel-Droma 03-17-2015 11:39 AM

i'm on telus 50 speed for discount for the next 6 months.

ugh. i really wish novus or teksavvy was at my place... or they might be i just gotta check.

or ill call back to telus and bitch. been with them 7 years, hopefully that's enough bargaining power.

Hondaracer 03-17-2015 11:49 AM

Before you go with cik make sure you read some reviews. 90% of what I saw was negative. For the $10 a month diff I'll stick with Shaw

is modem without wireless capability really a killer? you can always just buy a router.

willystyle 03-17-2015 09:05 PM

90% of the reviews online about CIK are from Ontario where they piggyback off of Rogers/Bell.

And yes! It really is unlimited. I haven't had any problems with bandwidth usage.

twitchyzero 03-17-2015 09:41 PM

am i missing something or does Teksavvy not enforce caps?
I put in my vancouver proper postal code and 25 service is capped at 300GB
you also have to get a modem, then pay dry loop fee? I only have Telus Internet, no TV nor active landline.
ultd usage during early mornings are meh for seeding

lilaznviper 03-18-2015 12:26 PM

teksavvt have unlimited plans as well as unlimited times from 2am to 8am as stated on their website

Ronin 03-18-2015 12:49 PM

I'm pretty much decided on a $45 a month, 25MBps plan from Teksaavy. What's CiK?

Personal Experience (I am not technologically inclined): I have heard mixed reviews from CIK so I am surprised people have found ways to work with it. CIK leeches internet from Shaw and while download speeds are great for torrents and perhaps video games, CIK is awful for youtubing and streaming. Their customer service is relatively clueless when it comes to troubleshooting issues. CIK also makes you pay upfront for a year's worth of access.

Pretty contradicting statement. CIK speed is great for all applications, similar to what you will get with Shaw. It's even fine during peak hours.

I will give you this one.

The standard package is 300gb, but for $5 more, it's unlimited, no cap.

I'm not concerned about lacking wireless. My experience is that whatever you get "free" or "included" by companies is far from the fastest and most reliable.
Just wondering if their default (and only) option is the best way for me to spend $100 on a high speed modem.

Streaming seems to be an issue for me. But like I said, this is my experience using CIK. Streaming was fine when I was with Telus.
