Average life span/cycle of a Walbro fuel pump?
 

I thought I'd ask here as there'd be the largest variety of vehicles that can run this pump installed.

My Walbro 255 died on me not long ago after installing it in the summer of 2006, so I got about 8.5 years out of it.

I'm wondering, is this a good life span out of this pump? Or did I fall victim back in 06 and had a knock-off this entire time? I still have the pump...

I've heard walbro's fail a lot faster when you don't use a aftermarket return style fuel pressure regulator. I have one on my 2j with the stock fuel pressure regulator and I'm kinda worried I'm shortening the life of the pump. If anyone has any info about this is be interested in finding out as well. Sorry to thread jack.

they last a lot longer if you dont run the tank low, they overheat and die

I would be more worried if it was real walbro or not.

Outside of being a knockoff one thing to keep an eye on the 255 or any drop in pump is the filter. Any buildup/residue that forms over time will result in the pump working harder which can eventually lead to failure. It's a good idea to inspect inspect it and replace as necessary. That and the pressure restriction are always something you want to avoid.

8.5 yrs is a while, I'd be happy with that. How many kms?

I agree 8.5 years is a good life on a non oem pump. quality walbro or not.

That's the case with any pump, keep it above 1/4 and it'll last a lot longer.

255 is a decent pump but it is on the lower end of performance pumps. 8.5 years out of a 255 is not bad at all. If your looking for long ter reliability look at an Aeromotive or similar pump.
