Windows 7: Stuck at the Windows Logo Built a brand-new computer system from scratch 2 months ago. Past few weeks, computer keeps getting stuck at the windows logo whenever I start up my computer. I could never get it to boot up to my desktop properly. The only way is if I turn on and off the computer like 20 times and finally it boots up. - Ran anti-virus to check and nothing. - Checked my bios settings to make sure its booting up my hard drive and its fine. - Disabled all the startup items in msconfig and still getting windows logo stuck - Tried system restore to earlier point in time, still stuck. I've googled search and appears to be common issue but doesn't seem like there is a correct approach as every computer system is different. Anyone experienced something like this and/or possibly could chime in, what this could be the issue? I want to leave re-installing windows as my last resort. |
I had a similar problem, and it was my hard drive going bad. There was no hard drive activity when the computer stalled. You might or might NOT have the same problem. |
I had the same thing happen to me and a buddy. Try unplugging every drive except your boot drive and see if that helps. |
Just before running into this issue, what changed in your computer? Did you install new hardware, software, or drivers? I had a similar issue, and it was due to bad video drives where the video card didn't receive enough power to run properly. I reverted back to a more stable version, and using the included utility, I increased the voltage going to the video card. |
Happened to me with a client. It was his hard drive. The hard drive even froze up my computer when I plugged it in as a secondary. |
Yeah same thing for me. Was hard drive. Put in a new HD and all good. Figured there must have been a corrupted file somewhere in windows |
Thanks guys. Going to do some more diagnosing this week. My OS is running on a brand new SSD. What are the chances brand new SSD busted so fast . My other regular hard drives are for backup/media files, but windows isn't on there, don't think they can be the culprit?.... |
I've had this happen to me many times, and I've generally had 3 different causes: 1. Corrupt driver/Windows install 2. Bad ram 3. Bad laptop battery. Have you tried booting into safe mode? If you can, I'd suspect it's your Windows installation and a wipe would do. Basically try everything you can that won't cost you money before moving to replace items. If you can't boot into safe mode either, follow the others' advice and try and isolate the problem. If you're using a desktop, try removing sticks of RAM as they're easy to do (unless you have only 1 stick). If that doesn't solve anything, try disconnecting the secondary drives one by one. If that doesn't solve anything, try a reformat. If you have issues with the installation or after a "clean" install, then it's likely your drive. |
Similar issue, only mine was a bad stick of ram.. Also, if it's a brand new SSD, there is a slim chance that it's defective? |
