Screen goes black randomly

When playing games, my screen goes black for like 2 seconds. Happens randomly.

It started ever since I bought and installed a WD External HD. At first, it only happens during CS:GO.

Just this week, I had a BSOD when shutting down relating to win2k.sys (or something like that). After booting up again, my league of legends had issues. Every time I pressed launch, the client is all black. Had to do a repair to fix it.

Now when I play LoL, my screen goes black randomly too.

Also to note, occasionally, I get a device disconnect/reconnect sound, like when you plug in a USB device.

Any ideas?

laptop or desktop?

with the recent install of WD it may be a driver conflict for memory usage...how much ram do you have? and have you uninstalled wd and tried again?

what gpu you using have you tried updating or rollback of drivers?

it could be gpu, psu or ram. if feasible try switching out pieces one at a time(or add more ram).

easy fix to try using a temp monitor to check if gpu just overheating. (if it is clean the fans using alcohol swab if reachable.

another try is disabling screensaver if you have it enabled.

not sure of your setup but are you using a wireless mouse? ensure the batteries are full or fully charged this happened on my wireless mamba
when the battery was just about to die but only would happen if i button mashed as the power draw was enough to drop the power causing my screen to go black
hence the dc/connect sounds
hope its something easy i hated it when playing fps

have you tried uninstalling the RHDD drivers off your system yet? If so any positive results?

Win2k.sys related crashes caused by a bad driver or a bad piece of hardware on your computer system.. I would try to remove the software and try to reinstall it once you know its better w.o it

Try turning on VSYNC.. seriously. See if it happens as much. Same thing happened to me. FPS was hitting 250-300 .. too much for the gfx card. Turned on FPS limit to 100 (or vsync) and it fixed my problem.

If the screen goes black randomly, it may have to do with the video card. I would try to updating the video drivers.

Had something similar happen except my screen went black and would periodically turn back on. Thought it was the monitor and was ready to say goodbye after almost ten wonderful years. Turns out it was either the monitor cable or the DVI slot went caput.
