insurance for your tools Hey guys, how many of you insure your own tools for work? Does work cover it for you,or you buy It yourself? My work covers up to a certain amount, but I never heard of a tech paying for there own insurance for their tools. |
I have my own business and was buying very pricey insurance for my tools. Then I found out that they depreciated the value of the tools very quickly, would only pay the depreciated value, and the insurance rate never went down. So basically if I had my tools stolen, they would replace them with old used tools. After being in business for 15 years, I saved enough money to buy new tools every few years instead of giving my money to the leeches. If you work for someone, they should have a garage policy that covers your tools. When I worked for Finning, our shop was broken into and several of us had our toolboxes stolen. We all got brand new tools and toolboxes that were covered either by the policy or the company paid for them. I haven't heard of techs having to pay insurance for their own tools when working for someone else, either. |
The value of my tools exceed the garage policy limit. To increase the policy I have to pay the difference... It's going to be around 600-700$ a year to insure |
