ChemChina to buy Italian tire maker Pirelli in $7.7 billion deal

China National Chemical Corp (ChemChina) is to buy Pirelli PECI.MI, the world's fifth-largest tire maker, in a 7.1 billion euro ($7.7 billion) deal that will place one of the symbols of Italy's manufacturing industry in Chinese hands

Just saw the above on Reuters..Looks like Pirelli would end up in Chinese hands.

It seems China is trying to get its hands on all sorts of automotive brands. Volvo, MG, and now Pirelli.

hope QC will remain good...professional racing lives kinda depend on them.

or they could switch brands.

Oh no, does this mean Pirelli tires will have their quality downgraded to "made in China" level? :troll:

Those Chinese companies better not buy Michelin lol.

Slifer 03-23-2015 01:54 PM

Fucking China, first with the King Crabs now Pirelli :troll:

bananana 03-23-2015 03:30 PM

There's no point assuming that QA will decrease because of a change in parent. For all you know the Chinese company may be just trying to extract manufacturing/ marketing knowledge from a well established industry leader -- more likely the case than anything.

The Italians aren't really known for their quality control in the first place. Anyone who knew Lamborghini prior to ze Germans taking over knows that they ran the company like the tractor builders that they were.

It wasn't until Audi AG took over, that monitored QC, properly filed records, and modern design technology became the norm in Sant'Agata Bolognese.
