Police shoot, kill suspect in Downtown Eastide triple stabbing

If you wonder why a guy swinging chains in the middle of Granville, or a 2x4 in the middle of a Knight St. intersection, "deserve" to be shot and killed... this is why:

Police shoot, kill suspect in Downtown Eastide triple stabbing | (CKNW AM) AM980

A triple stabbing led to the fatal shooting of the public by police, and now the officer involved is being investigated by the Independent Investigations Office.

Sergeant Randy Fincham says police responded to the First United Church on East Hastings and Gore street around 5:00 pm Thursday after reports of a man stabbing people.

Police say the suspect was killed, after rounds from a beanbag shotgun failed to subdue him, and he began stabbing a woman standing nearby.

The woman, who appears to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, is in critical condition.

Two other men who were attacked have been treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Fincham says assistance is being provided to the officer who felt forced to pull the trigger.

“At this point it looks like the officers intervened when they felt somebody’s life was at risk. That is what we saw this evening. The last thing an officer expects to do in the course of their duties is to discharge a firearm, and be put in a position where they may have to take a life.”

Eye witness Daniel Gorowski claims a black male got into a dispute with a group of individuals he knew, before stabbing the woman and two men.

“He went crazy and started stabbing people, he stabbed three people, there is a guy in a white shirt with a bandana…he got stabbed in the head, and slashed down here.”

Gorowski says he fled the area, but heard shots ring out.

“I ran down the corner over there, and I was on the phone with 911…and I heard one shot and I was like what the!? And then I got closer to the corner to see what happened, and all of a sudden it burst out to eleven shots.”

Others at First United Church also had a front row seat to the horribly violent shooting.

Church Spokesperson Heather Forbes says it was troubling for those who witnessed the violence.

“A number of us saw different parts of what happened. It started on Hastings Street, and then there was a pursuit around to Gore Street. It resulted in a very sad and incredibly violent incident.”

Forbes says her concern now is to help those people deal with the trauma of what they witnessed.

“First United is working with community members and with staff to get the support they need.”

She says the incident is not reflective of the community as a whole.
Summary:
Guy starts stabbing random people in the street.
Cops try non-lethal methods to stop him.
Guy bolts.
Guy stabs random innocent bystander.
Cops finally shoot the guy dead.
Bystander now in critical condition.

Figuring out whether he had a mental condition or was on drugs or something... doesn't matter to that woman.

pretty clear cut
glad that piece of shit died
now the only money wasted will be on investigating why piece of shit did what he did instead of that AND keeping said piece of shit alive.

that story with the Delta cop charged with murder in the Starlight Casino shooting is what pisses me off...i can't even.

That shit cannot be easy to have to do, I'm glad we're taking care of those people willing to do first responder work.

Hondaracer 04-10-2015 08:56 AM

Especially down there, must be the shits working DTE

dat_steve 04-10-2015 09:10 AM

it sucks that there are going to be those who will fault the responding officers for not taking care of the guy before he stabbed the bystanders.

westopher 04-10-2015 09:49 AM

And they would be the same people to criticize the cops if they had killed him before the stabbing. Some people just like to shit on cops because of their own personal agenda.
Cops still have human brains, that run through the same decision making process as us, and when lives are at stake, those decisions are fucking hard.

Obviously this guy was served a luke warm craft beer and his skinny jeans being so tight just helped set him off. :(

It's a sad situation either way, sad that the police didn't take care of him sooner so he was able to stab more people but at least they tried rubber bullets first and didn't shoot him right off the bat like we have been seeing in the US.

The subject got what was coming, good on the officer for making the hard decision to use lethal force. Hopefully all the bystanders make a quick recovery and the officer too, it's not an easy decision to take a life.

Personally I would be ok if the officer shot him with his firearm first, the subject clearly had a weapon and was using it in a threatening manner. Would have saved the woman from being stabbed in this case as the subject didn't start stabbing the woman till after being hit with the beanbag rounds.

according to a witness, interviewed on the news, 3-4 black guys came out of a drug building, arguing with 1 guy who ended up pulling his knife and stabbing the other guys...this is when the witness bolted and called police (there is a violent group of jamaican/haitian immigrants that deal drugs in the dtes)

sounds like drug dealers/users getting into one of their typical fights but this time it spilled out onto the streets

according to the police after attempting non-lethal means the suspect attacked a bystander, that's when they used lethal means...which is horrible if that's what it turns out to be

but i'm curious if she was involved/known to him, and if any of the rounds fired by the police hit her

I commend the officers for attempting non-lethal means honestly, considering their track record, and the apparent violence already inflicted by the suspect

i'm uninformed of what it's like in the states, but i feel like Canada's a helluva lot better

geeknerd 04-10-2015 04:12 PM

I can't stand the media. The guy is STABBING A WOMAN and the news anchors have the nerve to question if lethal force was necessary?? Are you fucking serious?

westopher 04-10-2015 05:40 PM

FUCK. I know. I was actually yelling at the T.V. however its not really the news anchors, they were reporting on the public having issue with it. Regardless, the angle that story took was frustrating, as well as people questioning the need for lethal force.

CTV Vancouver: Calls for body-mounted cameras | CTV News :lawl: @ this...I'm not saying that race crime doesn't exist...But when you're holding a fucking knife and you're stabbing someone AFTER being shot with beanbags...What do you think is going to happen? A BULLET THROUGH THE DOME IS WHAT. I love how the media tries to generate more publicity by attempting to tie this with other unrelated police incidents. This guy was a deadly criminal. That is it. No race, No gender, No sexual orientation. He deserved it.

mr_chin 04-10-2015 06:28 PM

but then, this is why then shouldn't...

Starlight Casino hostage says cop who shot her abductor is a ?hero,? and shouldn?t have been charged with murder

"Why didn't the office offer him a blanket and a cup of hot cocoa?! He has to be INFORM HIM OF HIS RIGHTS BEFORE SHOOTING, THIS DEATH WAS WRONGLY CAUSED, toss the OFFICER IN JAIL!!!"

:heckno:

With all the bad press members of Law Enforcement have been getting recently, it's really shown how ignorant the general public is with these situations.
