Rock Chip, how to deal with it? My hood has a number of rock chips that are quite visible. Clay bar and wax won't help cleaning the dirt out. I used q-tips, it's alright but not perfect. I have talked to a guy at a shop and he said there are ways to polish the rough edge of a rock chip. Of course he didn't show me how. Is there DIY way to do it? |
If you want to repair the chip then cleaning it out (toothpick, small pit of sand paper), fill with paint. Then use a small hole punch on some wet/dry sandpaper, superglue it to the end of a pencil (eraser end) and sand it down with that. You can level it using this and then polish it back to a nice shine after. If not, then clean it out, touch it up and forget about it. |
no need to buy special type of wax or no need to use rotary buffer, right? |

If you just touch them up very carefully with some paint and leave them then you need nothing special to do that other than the paint. |
okay, I will give it a try the pencil trick next week. I would like someone to explain what is "cut the paint" or "to cut it with a polisher". From I read on google, it seems like tripping the existing clear coat? to remove surface scratch? Can someone explain, what is a proper way to maintain the paint? EDIT: okay, autogeek.com is pretty informative site, I've read that site the whole afternoon. I'll need cutting compound with wool or wave foam pad --> polish with wool pad --> wax with regular foam pad for best result. |
