no offense but lol @ prepping "gold and silver coins"

honestly, if society has degraded to the point of bartering with silver and gold coins, i'm puting a bullet in your head.

my list:
safety goggles (covers and seals the whole area)
nose and mouth mask (3M makes the best ones)
latex gloves.
carabiners/rope/slings
am/fm Transistor Radio
first aid
Maps/compass
multi perpose tool.
i have what i call burn box (in it has waterproof matches, alcohol cotton balls, and Potassium permanganate)
Hennessy Hammock system (great for any condition and it packs as small as a water bottle)
my trusted k-bar (i never leave home without one)
water and water filtration (MSR MiniWorks EX Water Filter)
freeze-dried food
extra clothes
and $300 cash.

people that knows what i have prepared calls me crazy but nothing wrong with being prepared. right?[/IMG]

If something happens that is so catastrophic that you need all that, then there is absolutely no point in having $300 cash as it won't be useful for anything except toilet paper.

I have a Iridium 9555, Extreme and an Inmarsat isatphone 2, hands down I prefer the Inmarsat. I have 2 prepaid plans for the Iridiums but a monthly plan for the Inmarsat, about a $100 a month for 70mins that includes rollover of unused minutes.

If you just want one incase of emergencies, you could always get the prepaid or just the standard basic plan thats only 10mins for $40ish . The prepaid cards expire anywhere from 30, 90, 180 and 365 days depending on card, realistically most general consumers will be getting the cards that expire from 30-180 days, but you can always top off card to recharge to extend expiration date.
