Apparently the cops didn't even bother finger printing it. The car was in pristine condition the only thing taken was the dash cam... My friend got it detailed to disinfect it though haha

I guess someone didn't feel like taking public transit home and decided to take it for a ride home

Your friend is so damn lucky. Even the engine is okay? Wow... Tell him to at least investi in a steering lock and buy a lottery ticket.

Yup everything appears fine lol looks like they just needed a lift back to surrey and left it

Even the ign?

This may be a bit of a reach but perhaps the piece of crap former owner still had a key to the car?

If nothing was damaged, seems like the only explanation to me

I always worry about this when buying used cars. That's why I always try to buy from someone I know/trust. Maybe I'm just paranoid

lol nah the previous owner was a trusted friend

The_AK 05-26-2015 10:52 AM

so in this instance does the car become a stolen/recover and have status changed to rebuilt? Or at what point does this happen? (noob in this area)

fliptuner 05-26-2015 10:55 AM

It doesn't change the status of the car cause there's not enough damage on it for it to be a rebuilt, nor was it gone long enough for ICBC to pay out the owner.

Steering wheel locks are not as effective as we assume, any determined thief just cut the steering wheel it self and off goes the lock. Sure it will slow them down though.

Also remember it recovered within a period.. if it is gone for many years and the owner had been paid out the status will change.

any car can be stolen no matter what kind of lock is out on it, but a steering lock is more to deter someone who wants to steal it but doesn't want the hassle of dealing with it. If you put 2 of the same cars together, one with a lock and one without, most if not all the time, the one without the lock will be targeted.

Kind of like those security guys in front of the banks. You know when shit goes down they won't do anything, but just having them there will make a robber think twice about robbing the place
