S2000 Vtec - AP1 Hi everyone, Need some help please. I have a 2000 S2000 with 93000kms. Car is Stock - but has a K&N filter I had my valves adjusted about 300kms ago, on the weekend I took the car our for a long drive and thought I would try the Vtec, I hit 6500 RPM in 2nd and noticed nothing, took it up to 8000 RPM and still noticed no change in sound and performance. Tried this a few times. After doing some research I performed the following: Cleared the ECU (removed the neg terminal from the battery for 15 min) Checked oil - On the line below H (Mobil 1 - 10W30) Cleaned air filter Checked the Vtec Solenoid gasket - the mesh was clean and no clog Reading some posts on S2ki, some say you should not notice the Vtec kicking in, and the reason some feel it is due to the valves needing to be adjusted and the when the Vtec engages allows more airlfow into the engine at once hence feeling the Vtech enagage. With the valves adjusted properly is should a be consitant "pull" and not feel it engage. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |
how corroded is your vtec solenoid? is your check engine light functional? |

Hi Smoothie, thanks for the response The solenoid has no corrossion, and the check engine light is not on. I think it is working. All threads I have read are saying the solenoid rarely fails. Could it just be in my head? That is what some people are saying on some threads I have read. There is no loss in power, the car pulls strong all the way through. Just hard to believe a valve adjustment might make that much of a difference. The shop said my Intake valves were a little light, and my exhaust valves were still in spec. Is there a way to check if the solenoid is functioning? Also, car has 3 bars and is up to temp. I rarely use Vtec, since I rarely drive the car. Has fresh gas, 91 Shell from the states. Spark plugs have less that 5000kms on them. |
Check engine light should come on briefly at key on/startup and then turn off so you know it's working. |

I found this thread, seems like Map Whack could fix it. Billman from the board knows his stuff. VTEC Problem - S2KI Honda S2000 Forums I will let you guys know if this fixes it. Any other ideas, please keep them coming. |
Map Whack seems to have done the trick. I probably will just purchase a new Map Sensor to avoid this issue down the road. |
