airbag red light is on

So my red airbag deploy light is on, and the passenger airbag x2 light does not come on anymore, is there a simple way to clear the code or would I have to bring the vehicle into honda? I've read a few reviews about accord/civic owners having the same issue. Is this a big safety issue that requires immediate attention? Will my airbags still deploy in the event of an accident? Has anyone had this happened before? Thanks in advance!

It would be helpful to know the year/whether it is an accord or civic, any major accidents that resulted in a deployed airbag etc etc.

Your airbag will not deploy until you fix the issue.

You can try clearing the light but it will most likely come back on if you don't fix it.

Early 2000 Honda's have this problem.. Our 01 Odyssey and 00 Accord V6 both have the SRS Airbag light.. We just ignore it

Just so you know if the airbag light is illuminated it means in the event of a collision the airbags will not deploy...

on my 04 TL it was the seatbelt buckle. some sensor inside it malfunctioned and after an $80 replacement, the airbag lights turned off

Get it fixed, if you are in an accident and are injured ICBC has leverage to pay out far less because you drove around with a defective safety feature that could have saved you from injury.

Get err scanned. From experience most common problem is the driver side or passenger side seat belt buckles.

As stated above if you do not fix it most likely the light will return and your airbags will not function!

nope, never had any accidents before. I also read about some reviews saying it is the seatbelt buckle sensor as well or module for airbag. I guess I'll have to bring it in to honda. Safety concern mainly for my passengers. If i didn't drive anyone I wouldn't mind leaving it haha.:accepted:

just get it scanned by honda. I believe they'll cover the part under warranty (seat belt buckle) since it is a SRS safety issue. You'll just have to pay for labour to install.
If you haven't been to a honda dealership lately, I suggest you do. A few recalls may be outstanding on your vehicle depending on your vehicle.

If its the seat belt issue it might only be covered in the US not Canada. I had to get my driver seat belt sensor replaced after labor it was like $400 iirc. My part was expensive. 04 accord

every time you turn the key on, your SRS air bag system does a self diagnostic. if it senses any malfunctions, the SRS light will turn on and your air bags will NOT deploy in a collision.

get it diagnosed by someone with the right equipment to scan/calibrate/reset codes, and someone with the right experience and expertise.

anyone know a place other than honda to deal with this? I don't want to have to fork out a few hundred more dollars just for a bad sensor.

Fafine 08-09-2015 08:44 PM

check recall on it.

honda canada sent a recall on 2001-2005 honda civics. free to repair if it's the sensor.
just call honda canada to make sure. or check the website

^Recall for 2001-2005 Honda Civic is only the passenger and driver airbag inflator. There are no current open recalls for the seat belt buckle.

You can only get it from a Honda dealership as far as I know, there is no aftermarket option. Labor is actually not a lot to get the seat belt buckle replaced. What Honda do you have?

Peturbo 08-09-2015 10:37 PM

recall is free whether you have an SRS light on or not. Which i recommend you get done if you haven't yet.
Those recalls have nothing to do with any SRS lights by the way. Recall is also for a bunch of hondas around that generation, not just the civic.
