2017 Porsche 911 Carrera to have Turbo

So the 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera will have 3.0L Flat 6 turbo.
This is due to emission standards and the Carrera S will have turbo as well but boosted to 420hp instead of 370hp(base model Carrera)

The GT3 will likey have turbo and 911 Turbo will also have turbo.

2017 911 Carrera 0-60mph in 4.0 sec
2017 911 Carrera S 0-60mph in 3.7 sec

I guess it comes down to what type of engine and power delivery you enjoy. I personally love turbocharged engines, so to me it's not a bad thing. But I sense that the majority of 911 owners prefer N/A (and heck, even air-cooled!) so it's probably not going to sit well with them.

Does it have turbo ... Noob ... Oh wait :ahwow:

They specifically have said that the GT3 will remain N/A.

No, for a $100k car it's pretty slow.

Nissan GT-R: 2.7 seconds
Corvette Z06: 2.9 seconds

2.0 I4 NA 240 = 120hp / L

3.0 F6 Twin Turbo 370hp = 123hp / L

Timpo tell me WHY???

heleu 09-08-2015 08:17 AM

^ because torque.

Mancini 09-08-2015 11:56 AM

Too bad. Maybe now 911 owners will want a Cayman.

Boxster/Cayman is going 4 cylinder turbo.

StylinRed 09-08-2015 06:27 PM

so i guess older porsche prices will be going up even more

Timpo 09-14-2015 09:18 PM

They shouldn't need 370hp to achieve 0-60mph in 4.0 seconds.

Alfa Romeo did it in 4.1 seconds with 237hp.

TIL: size, weight, aero and gearing has no effect on acceleration.

then that might mean the 991 carrera current gen will be a good investment. quote as "the last NA carrera (s) ever made".

just like the water cooled/ air cooled fiasco.
