Where to buy thick and large plastic cutting board? Hey guys, Looking to see where I might acquire a thick and large plastic cutting board, preferably with a juice catching ridge? I've done some research and I think HDPE (high density polyethylene) is what I'm looking for since it is normally food safe. However, when I look at raw manufactures of HDPE, it seems crazy expensive! (unless they have scrap pieces they'd like to sell??). They don't seem to list actual measurements so when I see 4x8 (HDPE Sheets / Puck Board / Starboard - Greyco Products) I assume it is in feet since the price is so high? I tried looking on line to no avail and dropped by the Gourment Warehouse today but they mostly carry the Epicurean boards and not much else. Suggestions? |
Call K&R contour plastics at 604 944 6960... Located in Coquitlam. My dad Kerry runs the shop. |
Give Ming Wo in Chinatown a try. |
How big and how thick? What are you primarily using it for? For catching juices, you thinking about when you have a turkey or a prime rib? I've been using a San Jamar 18x24" cutting board, it's commercial equipment. I've been using it for 4+ years now. Still in amazing shape. Zero complaints. On the very rare occasion you need to catch juices, put the board on a sheet pan as your drip tray. No specialized equipment required. |

By juice catcher, I mean it has a routed surface so that it will catch some light splattering of meat juice. Nothing crazy. Where did you buy the San Jamar from and how much? I will get to making some phone calls to the plastic manufactures...sometime soon, haha. Thanks for the replies thus far! |
