He said “something interesting” which precludes an RX
Source: I own one
The new Honda Passport is fuckin cool looking with the orange DRL wrapped around the headlights and rugged body lines, I was going to consider buying one before I inherited the free RX.

What’s not interesting about reliability and longevity ?!?! Those v6 RXs will never die if you just do basic maintenance. It’s boring as tap water but that’s the point. That’s what makes them interesting.
You don’t want comfort and reliability ?!? You’re all bunch of masochist

I'm gonna recommend this like I do to everyone who asks for a SUV, Honda CRV hybrid. It's not going to be a fun drive but it's your wife driving most of the time. It's got good fuel economy, it's modern, got a decent interior, smart on space. If you don't mind doing some work yourself, you can make it quieter as well.
I shat on Honda in the Prelude thread, but they are greater than the sum of their parts, and nothing exemplifies that more than the current Civic hybrid and CRV hybrid. The rest of the lineup...... meh. The Passport is interesting but you are dealing with the archaic V6 which drinks fuel. Quote:

I was actually somewhat tempted to get into a TMY dual motors last year? 2 years ago? during a period when it was eligible for a rebate and prices dipped. But le wifey wasn't too keen on ditching the RDX yet at the time. There was of course some concerns about build and ride quality.
Now that the TMY has been updated, I just find the entire squinty eye look very repulsive. I have a difficult time deciding whether the front or the back looked uglier. And with Elon being the dick that he had been this year, I honestly have very little interest in buying a Tesla at this point. Quote:

Size-wise, I generally prefer smaller cars, and our old RDX is close to the upper limit of how big I like our cars to be. I agree that even now, it is already right at the borderline of not having enough room for our road trips, and as the kids get older, that situation is only going to get worse.
And then there is the garage issue too. I'd really have preferred to have a bigger garage, but this is the one that came with the house LOL~

The X3 didn't cut it anymore for us with 2 kids, so it became the X5. Even then that's a bit tight when we go camping. We are doubly constrained with wife not wanting anything bigger and our garage not being wide enough to comfortably park anything bigger.
The 1G RDX is honestly quite small. A friend had a RDX when I was in first year uni. There was always too many of us so we took turns riding in the trunk. I just remember it being quite tiny.
A CRV would be a HUGE upgrade in interior space. I'm not sure where we are heading in terms of space but with how much the kids love camping I don't think we'll ever be able to go down from a X5.

Looks like Model Y Performance is available to pre-order - $75K is pretty decent for what you're getting when only focusing on specs. Tow package and exterior / interior color options are included in the price (for now anyway). https://www.tesla.com/en_CA/modely/design#overview

Maybe he'll post a follow up review. | Pretty sure the bang bus wouldn't fit in our garage LOL~ It is quite a tall vehicle, and it wouldn't clear our garage given how our garage isn't all that tall to begin with, and the old school garage door hangs low to further restrict the vehicle height clearance.
When we first moved in, we actually did a test to make sure the RDX would clear the garage. It cleared the (overhanging) garage door with maybe 2 - 3" worth of space LOL~

I think I got everything. Except for the diff, most of it was just bad luck and not related to the drivetrain. The 12V died shortly after the sunroof module was replaced, the SA doesn't really have anything to back it up but suspects the fluctuating voltage from the dying battery killed the sunroof.
I really wanted to chase down the 12V issue, or at least the cause of it. But the car doesn't keep a log of faults and when it happens, they only keep the latest fault so I couldn't track when it started becoming an issue.
Has it been a hassle? Yes, but it was all under warranty. Would I buy it again? Given my very specific set of requirements, most likely, there's nothing quite like the X5 PHEV on the market.
I'm out of warranty now, expired last month. I was debating whether to buy extended, but have since decided not to. The price of the warranty wasn't worth it because the aftermarket warranty includes coverage of the battery and electric motor and as a result is quite expensive, but BMW offers 8y/160k over hybrid components. 9k for extended will fix a lot of issues over the next 3-4 years so I decided to hedge against it. | Hmm I wonder if it's cause your car is built during covid. But then I still read horror stories with new X5 50E on bimmerpost. My mom had a couple of X5, the first one 2005 X5 4.4i was okay... dont get a bmw V8. The second one 2017 35i, I looked for a specific one with no sport package (hate staggered wheels with that monster 315rears), no air suspension, and not too many optional gizmos and it's been rock solid reliable with just basic maintenance and great mpg. Maybe next year with the new klasse X5 coming out they worked out all the kinks.
