Massive fire engulfs Dubai building near the world's tallest skyscraper
 

A massive fire broke out Thursday in a residential building near Dubai’s New Year’s Eve fireworks display.

The fire is near the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest skyscraper at 828 metres.

Is it a fire related to the fireworks or is it a fire set deliberately by someone?

Wasn't there already another big fire in a residential skyscraper there around this time last year?

In October, when I was in Dubai, the tour guide was saying the Address Hotel Extension (across the street from Dubai Mall) was experiencing difficulties cuz of the low oil prices. EMAAR which is the national property developer had lots of projects on the go for Expo 2020 but majority is on pause... I'm thinking this is an inside job and the new cash will be able to fix the existing Address Hotel damage + finish off the Address project across the street.


The same shit apparently happened in 2008/2009 when the financial crisis hit. The burj-khalifa project ran out of money cuz of low oil so the ruler of Dubai ended up asking the ruler of Abu Dhabi for a loan. In return, the structure was named Khalifa. The Khalifa tour people spun this around and said the Sheikh mohamed named it after Shikh Khalifa as a good will gesture. The crap you learn from locals!

Pretty surreal to see the Burj Khalifa NYE fireworks happen while this building was still burning up.
