Sony RX100 line + Sony Playmemories App

The app is shit, period.

Does anyone in here have an RX100 (M1, M2, M3 or M4) camera that they have successfully managed to pair and transfer to their phone?

I can't for the life of me get this to work. I am using an LG G4 with Android 5.1.

Sony's Alpha support seems to think it should work.

All help is appreciated

not connecting either on my Xperia Z5 and 7RM2...NFC and wifi with either stay in connecting mode or app will crash.

i think it's just the latest app update is buggy...because my action cam and A6K on an older version of Play Memories worked perfectly

It works on M1 w/o wifi?

mine works fine.. i have a mk2 and used it mostly with a one plus one, nfc and wifi both work.
nfc you have to literally touch the bottom of the camera to the back of the phone and hold it for a few seconds, also the phone has to be unlocked.

it worked on my Nexus 5 for awhile, but my N5 updated to Android 6.0+, and Playmemories wasn't compatible any longer :/

Took forever for them to update the app that I gave up on it, just checked because of your post and it works again :woot:

works with my phone/cam combo but I'm using the N5 + A7R2

Make sure wifi is turned on for both your devices,

Make sure you have apps installed on both your phone and camera

Access an app from your camera and it will throw up a QR Code image

Use your phones playmemories app to scan

Now you're connected, and you won't have to scan a QR code with that phone/camera again

but man does it drain the batteries of my phone and cam :/

This is what I am thinking as well. I get stuck at the connecting or sharing prompt them the connection will just time out. Its too bad, even gopro has a fully functioning app right out of the box. Never had any issues with it. Hopefully Sony gets their shit together soon. They've got a superior line of cameras paired with mediocre software to support camera functions

Works perfectly on my iPhone 6S...

Their newest app must have been tested thoroughly and guaranteed to work with iOS. I spoke with a sony rep and he said that Sony hasn't tested their latest app to work with Android 5.1 on the G4, so I guess I have to play the waiting game.

What memory cards are you guys using? I'm tempted to buy a 128gb Lexar 633x SDXC (UHS-1 U3) but I'm reading conflicting information online that it has issues with 4K/1080 120 fps

twitchyzero 01-23-2016 09:18 PM

people have trouble recording xavcs 100Mbps on that card despite its U3 rating

StylinRed 01-24-2016 03:04 AM

im using the lexar 1000x 256gb, so far so good, but i dont exactly take video, just tested to see if video worked, when i got it, and it did

Thanks guys, did more reading and it seems like the M4 doesn't like the Lexar cards.

Are there any shops locally that would carry a 128gb Sandisk Extreme Pro? I've looked at Broadway camera, kerrisdale camera, best buy, london drugs and it seems like only the Lexar is available.

Is my only option B&H?

^How is the M4?
Im debating between the M3 and M4 for a travel camera and I cant justify the $200 pricegap.

The M4 was a pretty good camera. The biggest reason why I chose the M4 over the M3 was the EVF which just wasn't as good on the M3 IMO.

If you don't care about having dials for exposure/aperture/shutter speed then I think the RX100 line is pretty good. If I had to choose a travel camera over again, I'd probably look elsewhere

I was looking between the RX100 line and the LX100 variant- the leica d-lux typ 109. But then pocket-ability really turned me away. I want something tiny for travel.

The EVF is something i definitely count on so Ill probably pick up the M4.
Thanks!
