Anyone interested in a Whatsapp group that reports speed traps and roadblocks?

Hiya Rev Scene-ers,

I ran into a speed trap on Granville and 35th in Vancouver and thought to myself there must be some sort of community that reports these. I tried the Waze app but found there aren't too many active users and reporting via Waze seems a bit more troublesome compared to sending a simple message in some sort of group chat.

Is there already an easy to use group chat in place that I just don't know of? Ideally, I'd want to create/join one for the Richmond/Vancouver/Downtown Vancouver area.

If there is one already in place, please let me know about it. Otherwise, if there are enough people interested for the areas mentioned above I would be willing to create one on Whatsapp or WeChat.

Best,

C-Cubed

there's a twitter account that reports speed traps / roadblocks etc

@RoadBlocksBC

you can also send them tweets of a roadblock / speed trap and they'll tweet it

Any app that relies on constant user input will fail.

Just use the App Waze. It has speed traps and cameras already.

@RoadblocksBC looks like it has a good number of active users. Although, I looked back to the date at which the speed trap got me and it was not reported Still, looks good. Thanks for that tip!

I listen to traffic radio, although they are slow to react and often wrong. If something requires input from the public, you know it's going to fail.

As for road blocks, even traffic radio will not report it. After all, the idea is to catch fokkers driving under the influence. Speeding is breaking the law, but DUI = zero tolerance. If it keeps my family and the public safe, I'm all for it.

If you need an app to warn you about road blocks or speeding traps you need to be taking the bus.
An app to use while driving (illegal) that will aid in your doing further illegal activities......not seeing any good ideas here.

How is evading speed traps and road blocks illegal?

Using an app that presumably needs you to operate your phone while driving is illegal. Pretty sure that's what he means. Oh, and using it to avoid speed traps etc. while say...speeding =P

Never said they were. Using an APP while DRIVING YOUR CAR is ILLEGAL.
Given the APP is designed to warn drivers of speed traps and road blocks it is there to help them not get nabbed doing ILLEGAL things.

Everyone speeds in Vancouver unless they are stuck in traffic.

I've got a WeChat group if anyone is interested. Simply because knowing myself, I will probably phase out Waze and go twitter dormant once again sometime in the future.

I'll admit I'm a speeder and if I speed and get caught I deserve it.

I'm against reporting speed traps and road blocks as I feel they do serve a purpose; be it being a revenue generator or possibly changing people's driving habits.

I'm in, I can get my friends in the RCMP in it too, they will know where all the locations are. It's a win-win.

you guys never flash oncoming traffic to warn them of speed traps? I'm against revealing road block setups however.

and not all app usage while driving is illegal..many new cars/headunits have voice activated function in carplay/android auto

IMO radar detectors and laser jammers are overkill. I was just thinking of possible more cost effective solutions.

I used to have an older generation valentine unit my cousin handed down to me but I heard they're only really effective against radar. I've heard because laser works in straight lines by the time it detects laser signal, it's too late. I'm thinking that having it mounted on your windshield or whatnot just kills any leniency a cop would have given you otherwise.
