Wind Mobile sold my personal info **CAUTION** Hi, I recently opened an account at Wind Mobile with a brand new number. And starting at the evening of day 1, I keep getting spam calls from Indian and Chinese accent people almost everyday. How could it happen?? I guess there are three possible reasons: 1. Spammers made lucky guess 2. Customer information in Wind Mobile DB has been hacked. 3. Someone in Wind Mobile sold my personal profile. Does anyone have the same experience? |
There's really no such thing as a brand new number. Chances are it was somebody else's number and since it was cancelled was put back into the pool of available numbers. |

Instead of antagonizing Wind Mobile and ForbiddenX, who happened to provide you an educated guess, maybe you should take the opportunity to find out what really happened and call Wind to inquire more about the number that has been assigned to you. If it bothers you so much, request a telephone number change and your problem is solved. Oh, and maybe take a few minutes out of your day and take off the tin foil hat. |

Get lost, trollguy. |
Sorry for thread jacking, but I figured this topic is somewhat related. I did some quick google search, and found out that Android has removed the BUILT IN ability to block numbers in one of their updates (was it 4.4?) I recently started getting spam texts from the same "group", but under different numbers. All of the numbers are like: 222000, 222001, 333000, 333001 (and other variations). I looked at some apps that block unwanted numbers, but apparently most of those apps no longer work due to the 4.4 android patch as well. Anyway, I guess I'm asking if anyone knows any good way to block spam? I think one method, atleast for text spam and my situation, would be to set the Google Hangouts app as the main text message app, and block numbers from there. But I don't really like the Google Hangouts app :< Why would Android remove the ability to block unwanted numbers??! |

i have to individually add each number as a spam number. if the pool of numbers keep going up, this is quite tedious. they keep talking about webcams and sexy lingerie... |

Are you saying you have successfully blocked some of them via adding to spam number? If so, how do you do it? at this point if I can even block a few of them, I will be happy. My Sony/Android has no ability to block any numbers via call or text at all. The only way I found out is by setting Google Hangouts to your default Messaging app. You can then block receiving alerts from numbers. (Atleast this way you won't get spam at 5am in the morning). I really don't like the interface of Google Hangouts though, so I am hoping to find a way to block them in general. |
yea, what i did is i would go into the message then tap the 3 dots on the top right corner, scroll down, then tap on add to spam numbers. but that only adds the individual number (ex. 3330001). it doesn't block the group. then someone from 3330002 comes and txt me, i would have to repeat the process. i have samsung s5 and using the default messaging app, not google hangouts. now the 222's are coming in :seriously: |

I searched and searched, and ended up googling for methods. A bunch of places said ALL Android phones above a certain version removed that function (I think it was 4.4+) I'm assuming your phone is over 4.4 though, since S5 isn't too old. Maybe it is a Sony issue. I know you're annoyed that they keep changing numbers, but for me, I'm getting multiple spam from the same number over and over again too. So, I'm in quite a worse situation than you, because I can't even block any of them >:[ EDIT: I went to the States over the weekend for 2 days. When I landed back in Vancouver, I turned on my phone and had 3 texts from these a-holes. This morning, I was woken up at 5am because I received a text from them. GRRRRR |
weird, i'm running android 5.1.1 as well. |

I went and did some more research, and it is SONY who removed this function on their phones. So, other Android phones (like Samsung) may still have it, but I DON'T. I never thought I'd say this, being a huge Sony fan, but they dun goofed hard on this. Such a simple feature that EVERYONE else offers is not offered here? Other people with Sony phones asked this question too upon searching this issue, and Sony's response is to "just head to Google Play and download a third party app with that function". Right now I'm planning to test switching to Google Hangouts and BLOCKING the numbers there, and then going back to my regular messaging app. I doubt this will work, but it only takes a few seconds to try anyway. (I just gotta wait for another spam text to come to be able to test this). |
Sorry but this is a bit off topic, but does anyone know how the reception is like with Wind? I just moved back to town and before I left there were a lot of dropped calls etc so now I am wondering if they have improved? thanks in advance! |
