I just drove through that exact intersection last night too, scary.

I know her husband, my thoughts and prayers go to Brad and his two children.

RIP. Just tragic anytime we lose one of our first responders, especially while on duty.

H.Specter 04-05-2016 06:46 PM

Based on the pictures, looks like the police car was leaving the parking lot

Bahhbeehhaaaa 04-05-2016 07:16 PM

RIP, aren't these cruisers heavily reinforced?

Not sure what kind of reinforcement you'd need when you're getting T-boned by a truck that was supposedly speeding.

Drunk driving is preventable, call a friend, taxi, or fucking walk. This person is a real selfish fuck.

Condolences to the family
RIP Officer

So fucking sad leaving a baby that won't remember his/her mom.

Whatever happened to Harper fixing the justice system. Only way to get justice in Canada is vigilante justice.

Very sad. RIP

The officer was travelling on Goldstream Ave in Langford while the driver of the truck was on Peatte Rd travelling around 120 km/h (50 km/h zone).

I have taken apart a police issue Crown Victoria and they do have substantial cross beams inside the door panels. The velocity and size of the vehicle were far too great in this case.

too bad it seems like the late model Crown Vics don't have significantly better crash rating when you compare it to that 2002 pic with a 90s Crown Vic

This is tragic and I feel very sorry for her and family for this accident.

But from what I can see, from multiple sources, the police has not released any detail. At least at this point.

The RCMP Superintendent didn't even confirm that alcohol was a factor during the press conference.
The witness who was at the scene trying to help the officer was also saying that he did not smell any alcohol from the driver.

As I've seen so many comments from other news articles(because public can comment on them), some people are saying that "people are jumping on to the conclusion too early"

Also judging by the picture, truck had the right of way...some people are suggesting that the officer could have looked more carefully before getting out of the parking lot. It's smashed right onto the door, not the front bumper.

I am in no way trying to dishonor the victim of this accident. But I think everything is still puzzled for what have caused an accident.

The rumor says he was going 120km/h on 50km/h zone, headlights OFF(not even day time running light?), and Drinking and Driving...but none of these are yet to confirmed by RCMP or Saanich Police(the investigator of this accident)

Here's what 30mph (48km/h) impact would look like:

http://www.autointell.de/News-deutsc.../BMW-Z4-sm.jpg
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/KWkDfP1bNlg/hqdefault.jpg

Keep in mind, physics says that if you double the speed, the force of impact will be 4 times greater. If you triple the speed, the impact will be 9 times greater.
So if the truck was going 120km/h, well the force of impact will be approx 6 to 7 times greater than one in the picture. Also keep in mind that she got hit by a huge(heavy) truck, so the impact may even be larger at 120km/h.

This is sad and my condolences to her family. But I just wanted to point out that the RCMP, nor Saanich Police has released no information regarding to the accident.

It's been less than 24 hours, so I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that they're gathering evidence before making a statement, which is what they're supposed to do.

acurael 04-05-2016 11:44 PM

RIP. really sad

You think the fact that the truck appears like its lifted had a role? Bumper is up higher and looks like it hit the driver window. Are lifted trucks even legal?

The height difference of two vehicles have definitely made a difference.
Check this out, exact same vehicles, except one is 2 inches lower than the other.

The larger vehicle has definite advantage during crash.

a truck smashing into the window...that's similar to underride

T-boned by a heavy truck at 120km/h, on the driver side nonetheless. How the fuck do you reinforce against inbreds. You cant....

a police officer survived this one...

but yeah driver side hit no chance :(

Berzerker 04-06-2016 03:23 PM

Driver was released without charges. So all you dicks saying drunk, speeding, blah blah blah. Pound sand and wait until the results are actually posted. "The investigation remains active and on-going. Analysts have completed the examination of the scene and are continuing to gather evidence."

Obviously had he been drunk this would have been released and he would have been held.

Berz out.

The police may still be building their case for a host of other charges, but I agree impaired driving causing death is likely not one of them.
