Throttle Body Clean?

the maint. schedule says I need a throttle body clean (Mazda calls it "Terra Clean at a cost of my left nut+tax).

Has anyone done a throttle body clean?
Can I do this myself somehow with seafoam?

With Honda B's and D's, you could just separate it from the intake manifold, spray it with carb cleaner and scrub it. Let it dry and then re-install it.

Lots of diy's on how to clean mz3 throttle bodies. Google it. Also, don't forget to do the relearn procedure.

You can get throttle body spray at canadian tire. Undo the intake piping to the throttle body as said above and spray it in with the throttle plate open and closed, then wipe with a rag.

On a side note, I used Penzoil's fuel system cleaner in my car 2 weeks ago with a full tank of gas and noticed better throttle response and torque.

Not carb cleaner but use throttle body cleaner (not sure what the difference really but went the safe route).

I didnt know what i was doing but was well worth doing. Thanks to google and youtube.

Terra clean is a product by Justice Bros.
I've had it done on a couple of my vehicles. Made a noticeable difference especially on part throttle acceleration.
I do mostly city driving so I thought it was worth the money every 3-5 years

about to clean the throttle body on my ef, its cake in dust and stuff. How long do you guys wait between each clean? My FRS is quite new and the after market intake isn't exactly easy to take off, just gauging whether its worth it to do it to the frs as well

This process will clean out your TB and intake manifold. It's better than DIY Seafoam as you get better distribution of the product vs dribbling Seafoam into a vaccum line. But does it really do anything? I dunno.

However, taking out the TB and cleaning it yourself is probably a cheaper alternative.
If you have a Mazda 3, the TB is relatively easy to take out. Do the coolant bypass while you're at it and replace the gasket with a TIG.

If you have direct injection, Terra Clean will probably not do much to clean the hard baked on carbon build up on your intake valves.

I run methanol injection so that helps to keep my TB and intake manifold clean. I took out the EGR and that also has minimized the deposits on the intake manifold. Both help to reduce build up on the intake valves (DI) but will not eliminate it.

Used this product on my 1990 240SX. Made throttle response a lot smoother.

Is there any other shop that can do the terra clean service other than Mazda?

Carb Cleaner is usually good, except some newer cars have a sort of teflon coating which carb cleaner will take off. Specific throttle body cleaner might be a better option.
I usually clean my tb's once a year, doesn't take long.
