$80 item cost me $13 - broker fee, taxes, duties all included.

math does not add up to what cbsa agent said it would just on taxes and duties.

I just ordered something from eBay, and the seller is shipping it from the US via DHL :P. It's less than 15 USD (19 CAD) total. I can't wait to see what they do with the brokerage. :P

You're better off clearing your own packages or picking it up at PR/Blaine

I just refuse to deal with them. Very few things ordered online would be essential enough to justify dealing with those crooks.

Brokerage dumbassery isn't limited to UPS or DHL. I got this gem via Canada Post. Label says the item was $35. The bill I got said $161.49. I have no idea where they got this number from. I had to pay it to release the package and then go complain for a refund. Still ended up having to pay the GST and PST on my $35 item as well as the handling fee. I would have thought something of this would have normally passed through without any taxes charged to it.

Haha the value for duty amount should be the Canadian amount of the value of your item (your $35 USD converted to CAD based on their currency exchange rate). GST is 5% and the other taxes depend on the province that the item entered into Canada. Hope you gave them a good shout.
