R.I.P Kimbo

Mixed martial artist and boxer Kimbo Slice has died at age 42.

The death was reported Monday night in a statement by Scott Coker, president of Slice's promotion company Bellator.

"We are all shocked and saddened by the devastating and untimely loss of Kimbo Slice, a beloved member of the Bellator family," Coker said in the statement.

"One of the most popular MMA fighters ever, Kimbo was a charismatic, larger-than-life personality that transcended the sport," he added.

Slice, birth name Kevin Ferguson, had been admitted to a hospital near his home in Coral Springs, Florida, for undisclosed reasons on Monday, a police spokeswoman confirmed to ESPN. His condition was "dire," according to TMZ.

The death is being handled as a medical incident, and no foul play is suspected, the spokeswoman told Yahoo Sports.

Slice gained fame in 2003 after videos of him brawling in unsanctioned street fights spread across the Internet.

He parlayed his fame into successful careers in mixed martial arts and boxing. He last competed in an MMA bout in Houston in February.

:okay:

I still rmber watching his videos when youtube was on the raise back in mid 2000.

RIP .

First The Greatest, and now an MMA cult icon? This really has been a crazy year for deaths.

Wasn't he an aweful fighter? I still liked him tho :( had a great body style. Thick as fuck but no need to be trim as fuck.

Wish I could walk around wearing *literally* a thick as fuck chain link around my neck and a sledge hammer on my shoulder.

RIP

He wasn't an awful fighter, just not quite UFC or Bellator level.

He would still knock the shit out of 99% of the people on this planet.

RIP. I still remember those ridiculous street fight videos he had, just insane.

R.I.P. Kimbo. Loved his street fights online. Dude was just down for fighting, straight up. I give him all the respect for that. He'd always give props to those who rose to the challange as well. A respectful street fighter? Yup, that was him.

Kimbo wasn't a terrible fighter, he just didn't have proper training until he went pro. He'd gas out and had no ground game or submission defence. But yeah, he'd KO pretty much anyone. I haven't followed fighting in forever so I'm not sure how he ended up.
