Expensive Dealership Repair Cost. Suggestions?

My 2015 Honda Civic at 15, 190KM is due in for it B1 maintenance (Oil change and tire rotation).

The maintenance minder "B" is $253.88 and the subunit "1" is $39.88. Comes to a total cost of $293.76.

The B1 includes:
  • Replace engine oil and filter
  • Service front and rear brakes
  • Check parking brake adjustments
  • Rotate tires, inspect for wear and adjust pressure
  • Inspect tie-rod ends, steering gearbox, and boots
  • Inspect suspension components Inspect driveshaft boots Inspect brake hoses and lines (Including ABS/VSA)
  • Check all fluid levels and condition of fluids
  • Inspect exhaust system
  • Inspect fuel lines and connections

This all seems costly, and pointless to do on a 15xxxkm car. I'm worried about voiding the warranty or having complications with Honda, but I'm open to suggestions for other repair shops to visit.

Thanks

Honda shop rates are quite cheap for dealer servicing...that seems very reasonable for the amount of work they're doing (servicing brakes?). Outside shops will prob save you like 50 bucks and inspect less things... Also OP, are u a :troll: BabyRage

DIY rotate tires. Walmart oil change $40. buy RS beer.

Lolwut Maintenance Minder 1 (Tire Rotation) should be included in the B service at no additional charge.

I'm pretty sure the warranty became void after you spilled coffee on the interior

So they do an oil change, rotate the tires and inspect a few things? Just get the oil changed at a warranty approved place and keep the receipt, if you're worried call up Honda Canada and ask.

To be honest, the only thing they will do is rotate your tires and do your oil change. If you've driven the car for 15000 clicks and there doesnt seem to be anything wrong with the car then i would just do service A again.

All that other crap is if they find something seriously wrong with your car during the test drive or if they is a massive leak in one of the components (which if there was then you wouldnt have been able to drive it for this long)

Things to look out for while driving, spongey brakes, vibrating/pulsating brakes while stopping. Stiff steering wheel, turning your wheel all the way to one side while moving to hear for weird noises. "Knocking" where your struts are when going for lumpy roads. Parking on a hill with e-brake on and see if the care lurches.

As it is they will still tell you how many mm of brake pads you have left and how much tred depth you have left. They will also top up all fluids regardless.

Buy an electric car, no more worrying about paying for expensive oil changes.

out of curiousity

what exactly is their stance with regards to warranty and the maintenance minder?
from civic forums, they say you shouldn't have issues with warranty if you go with OEM parts (which i do)

But what if you don't do "B1" and you reset the minder yourself because you did the oil change and "inspected" the brakes and rotated the tires like they did? What if you told them to just do the A service instead of the B service? Would that affect any warranty claims down the line?

Worked at honda for 2 years.

As long as you're in the warranty time period - 3 years , 60,000km - should be ok to replace the faulty parts. That is, if it wasn't broken by yourself.

You can do your own oil changes - all you need is to show your receipts (if it is engine related.. etc)

For a B1 - they shouldn't charge you for the tire rotation , since they take off the wheels for the B service anyways.

Peronsally, I don't think you need to service your brakes every 2nd service (a, b). If you see unusual wear, or if your pads are squealing - then sure, why not.

However, it's your car.

i'll usually do my own oil changes but i plan on taking the car to the dealer every now and then

i definitely don't agree with the every other B service...will most likely bring it in for that service every 3rd or 4th oil change. I was just worried it would affect the warranty.(i've got the 7 year extended one)

The technician will argue with you that if he has to change the position of the tires, he will balance them before rotation - The lazy ones that still have morals will balance only the front two and leave the rears on a tire rotation.

I personally think, for a daily driver that sees year round driving a brake service isn't a bad idea once a year.

err.. haven't seen anybody balance wheels for a B service - at least at my dealership..
a "B" service is only 1.4 hrs. There's no time to balance (.8)

We only balance if there's a complaint on the work order..

I also have the 7 year extended, which is why I'm worried about working on my car - even with provided receipts. I think the B service is complete bs. I ended up taking it to Honda and they took about the whole day to complete it.

I'm probably gonna go to another shop, like Minit Tune ($85 for B1) or DC Motorworks ($105 for B1). But I'm still hesitant on mods...

This makes me question Richmond Honda's efficiency. They usually take more than 1.4hrs for a B service, and sometimes even took 3 or 4 hours for an A service...

I guess it depends if they're busy.
Dealerships like to quote extra time in case anything happens - such as when something breaks, cars are getting backed up and haven't been in the shop yet, car wash is backed up.. techs are on lunch or stuck on another job upselling.. stuff like that

I can vouch for DC Motorworks. Derek did a great job fixing my clutch 5 years ago. If I didn't work on cars, I would go to him.

+1 for EVO Garage

They did all the maintenance + mods for my '13 Accord up until this year (sold the car) and I'll be taking my next car (Honda or not) back there.
