They may also announce "Scorpio" tomorrow, a next gen XBOX One which would be significantly more powerful than either console [and more powerful than the rumored specs of the PS4 Neo]

nabs 06-12-2016 09:26 PM

whyyyy are they upgrading the hardware so soon :tears:

SkinnyPupp 06-12-2016 09:31 PM

They want to do away with 'generations' and make it more like the iphone. Upgrade to the latest model for best performance, or buy the previous one at a discounted price. Backwards compatibility will no longer be an issue - unless your model is old enough that it just won't run the games well enough to be playable

nabs 06-12-2016 09:47 PM

so expensive tho..

I wish they could just have a software upgrade to 4k. I heard that the PS4 was capable but software had to be released to unlock the feature.

I don't have a 4k tv yet but I thought the PS4 would be futureproof... at least for the next few years.

SkinnyPupp 06-13-2016 04:14 AM

IMO 4K only matters for movies - no games would be running at 4K native anyway. Even if Scorpio is as powerful as being rumored, that's a tough task to ask of a console.

The question is what is better - have the console upscale games to 4K, or let the TV do it. Most likely the consoles would be better, but I don't know if it would be worth buying a new one just for that.

Vansterdam 06-13-2016 08:02 AM

would consider buying only for gears of war 4 and possibly Red Dead Redemption 2 :fullofwin:

SkinnyPupp 06-13-2016 08:34 AM

$299 USD

GLOW 06-13-2016 09:12 AM

so they're making it so games can run across all new non-gen consoles vs phasing out like when they release new titles for PS4 and not PS3?

interesting...so the only titles that will be released for older stuff like PS3 will just be retro PSN games?

SkinnyPupp 06-13-2016 10:04 AM

Scorpio officially announced! It will be out next year.

It will be interesting to see how Sony responds. They already have PS4 Neo leaked, but it is a much smaller increase over current specs [barely worth doing IMO]

They kept bringing up "true 4K gaming" but that doesn't necessarily mean native 4K gaming BrokeBack

ZN6 06-13-2016 11:56 AM

I've had some good times with the Xbox one but those were short-lived, but I find myself constantly getting dragged back to the PS4 for the indie titles. I think the xbox one will be my first and last microsoft console I will buy. I've tried a few of their exclusive titles and they aren't anything I really want to put my time into.

I think it's just me getting old, but I do think that this is the last generation of consoles I will be buying into.

MarkyMark 06-13-2016 03:46 PM

So Scorpio is like 18 months away still?

will be interesting if thats the case, because up until now the general consensus with TV technology, especially with the higher end panels, is that you -always- let the TV up-convert the signal, not the source

That's because they are built with decoders, deinterlacers, etc, specific for upscaling movies. Not video games... With video games they can end up looking bad, or worse, add lag

GLOW 06-13-2016 08:00 PM

not sure about the name scorpio though 2 cold might sue 'em

What are the specs supposed to be? Nothing in that graphic seems terribly exciting, but if it is actually better than the Neo it'd be the first time an XBox had better hardware than a Playstation. Even that only matters so much when the only exclusives I'm interested in are for the PS4.

Araaadi 06-13-2016 11:28 PM

Where are you guys doing your e3 preordering? Deals seem shittier this year compared to last.

asian_XL 06-14-2016 01:51 AM

I am expecting Sony Neo, so i can play God of War and RE7. Now it will be long wait

Don't know the specs yet, just that they are aiming for 6 teraflops for the GPU. Xbox One is 1.31 and PS4 is 1.84. Neo is rumored to be around 4.

BTW the Xbox 360 GPU was faster than the PS3's, it was also easier for developers to make full use of, although first party titles with support from Sony were able to get a lot out of the PS3.

underscore 06-14-2016 08:18 AM

Interesting, I wonder how much of that they'll be making use of. Either way it'll be good to have some breathing space.

Even if the GPU was faster the 360 was still a heap of junk (overall) compared to the PS3.

i did mine with amazon last year...i'm glad i did. A lot of the stuff I ordered still aren't released yet and I got 30% off
this year's is pretty disappointing...they're only doing 20% off with some games at $50 (ie BF1, Watchdogs 2, Tom Clancy game and FFXV iirc)

based on things i've read at rfd, seems like best buy has the better deals if you're preordering and part of their rewards club

i don't think i'll be preordering anything this year unless that $50 list expands.
