Truck or SUV I miss my old 02 tacoma TRD and want to pick up another vehicle to be able to explore I really want to get a pick up truck but for the amount of times I need it I can either just rent a uhaul truck, trailer or friends my truck choice is another 00-04 tacoma trd 4x4 SUV i'm looking at the 99-02 4runnner, a 00 limited would be my top pick for the e locker and other off road goodies that were replaced with electronics in 01+ what other trucks or SUV's would you recommend? |
Depends on what you want to do with it, but I'd go for the 4Runner unless you need an open bed for something. |
If your looking at those years, you could always do something like an Xterra, frontier. Ranger has always proved extremely popular. Jeeps from back then have just aweful interiors, but hey parts are disgustingly cheap if they do break |
i will look into the xterra's or frontier if i chose to go with a truck my friend has a ranger and loves it but i hate the way they look and really prefer import interiors over the domestic versions |
no jeeps, i find them extremely unless vehicles except for off roading. atleast an suv i can sleep in the back etc. |
sounds like an suv would be a better choice given your needs. you'll get the covered gear space plus off road capability that you were looking for. also if you really need to haul you can just rent a trailer. i usually sleep in the back of mine instead of pitching a tent for overnight trips or if i just need a nap when i'm out fishing. |
ya I'm really leaning to towards a 4runner my sister has a 97 SRS full loaded with the elocker....i'd buy it off her but i FUCKING HATE the door handles lol i really hope they changed then in the later years the ones on my 02 tacoma were great but those earlier 4runners are so weak feeling |
whats your budget anyways? |
ideally $6-7 buy i'll pay more yet something good anyone know much about the 3rd gen 4runners? right now i'm limiting my search to the 99-00 limiteds because in 01 they removed the elocker and started with their electronic stability stuff |
you could find yourself a 4th gen on the higher end of your budget.. maybe for a little bit more. a v8 4th gen would give you a ton of flexibility and theres alot of aftermarket support for it. the center diff lock is nice for just all around driving and if you really need a rear locker you can drop in an arb air locker in the rear with a compressor. |
all 4th gens i see are $10K although the 3rd gens i'm thinking about (low kms, limited) are currently at the $9K range...i'm not willing to pay that much but i would prefer a clean truck to start with this won't be a daily driver, it will be a utility, whistler, camping and exploring truck. not going to stay stock for too long, just need $$$ |
you could for for a american suv like a 2000+ Tahoe, or Yukon, i take my dad Yukon XL on logging trails all the time ant its bone stock at 16 years old... Ive only broken the tow plug once.... |
Where are you even finding 4th gens for $10k? All the ones I've seen are either into the mid-high teens or have 300k+ |
hell no to a yukon etc the 4th gen for 10K was a 2 mins craiglist search...there was a couple on there (03's) |
|
i want a 99 or 00...looked at a couple this weekend might get my sister to sell me her 98 limited lol |
any updates? |
tough finding exactly what i want. there's been a few options but they've all sold. i'm in no major rush so i'll wait it out. i still want another tacoma but a 4runner will just be so much more usefull |
whats wrong with american? |
